Golf Monthly is the market leading golfing magazine in the UK. It's a lively and welcoming read that is targeted at good golfers who are regular players - and keen to get even better.
With over 100 years of heritage and authority behind it, it represents the real 'voice of golf' with leading columnists, top players and unrivalled coverage of equipment and instruction.
Designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish and set in the rugged Sonoran Desert surrounded by the stunning McDowell Mountains, the world famous Stadium Course plays host once again to the Waste Management Phoenix Open, made famous by the 20,000 fans that surround the par 3 16th, where golf meets football and WWF.
Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, probably never dreamed it would become famous throughout the world. "Really it was designed as just a little bridge hole to get to the 17th and 18th," said Weiskopf. "Here is this little par 3 that doesn't seem to be much of a challenge." Morrish said the hole has become a "rallying point for the unduly enthusiastic and sobriety-challenged portion of the gallery."
Some of the professionals competing in this week’s tournament will bring gifts to try and appease the crowd that surround this hole. A tee shot that misses the green or a putt that is left short is greeted by a crescendo of boos, it’s not a hole for the faint hearted.
The 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th are what make this an exciting tournament course. The 17th is a drivable par 4, "Short par 4s are hard to do correctly," Weiskopf said. "If you are going to lay up, I want the players to have the pressure of a tough chip and putt”. So remember while watching this tournament your money isn’t safe until your player has holed out on the 18th.

My tips to Win:
Having recovered from surgery and knocking off the rust with a Top 10 finish at Pebble Beach Scottie Scheffler 3/1 – with BetVictor – will be looking to make it his third win here in four years
With a win already this year under his belt, coming back to a tournament that he has won twice and had a runner-up finish Hideki Matsuyama 16/1 – with BetVictor – will be pushing Scottie hard to see who can get that third win first
It has been a solid if unspectacular year so far for Sam Burns 25/1 – with BetVictor – with three starts all inside the Top 30 with one Top 10 finish. But, this is a tournament that Sam has grown into and his two Top 10 finishes have come in the last two years, culminating in his third-place finish last year
Each-way tips:
This week's defending champion is Nick Taylor 70/1 – with UniBet – who has already won this year in a play-off at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Nick also had a runner-up finish the year before his win, so obviously enjoys the raucous atmosphere of this event
Another past champion of this event is Rickie Fowler 70/1 – with BetVictor – who also has two runner-up finishes here. It has been a tough time for Rickie over the last few year. But, you can see his gradual improvement working with Butch Harman over the last couple of year, which is quietly starting to pay off. Rickie now has had four Top 25 finishes from his last five starts and being back here I feel could see him back challenging again this week
Outside tip:
Another player with a solid start to the season is Tom Hoge 80/1 – with BetVictor – who has two Top 20 finishes including a Top 10 from his four starts so far. Tom is another player that has grown into this event after skipping it for several years at the beginning of his professional career. Tom now has three Top 25 finishes from his seven starts here
