Porto at night, I fell in love the first time I visited the city
Many of you will have travelled to Portugal and know what great golf the Algarve has to offer. Lisbon is a beautiful city rich in history, but it also offers some great golf. Portugal’s best-kept secret lies some 200 miles north in the culturally rich city of Porto and home to the second oldest golf course outside of the UK.
I first visited Porto for my other passion - football - to watch Liverpool play Porto in the Champions League and I fell in love with the city. Their pace of life, and of course its deep rich fortified wines, but as you would have guessed from its name Porto is home to the oldest Port vineyards in the world and has very close ties with the UK.
If you like to combine great golf, beautiful wines and a love of some of the best gastronomy in the world, then Porto needs to be near the very top of your must visit cities. Below is a taste of the courses Porto and Northern Portugal has to offer, unfortunately or fortunately, you will have to sample the wine and gastronomy for yourself when you arrive - but I already know you will enjoy both.
