Canada has been a country I have wanted to visit for a very long time and I suppose having an Irish heritage and growing up in England, Canada and Australia have always been on my radar.
Stepping off of the plane in Toronto, seems just like stepping off a plane in most US cities, it isn’t until you start to interact with the people that you notice the change; mannerisms, sense of humour and just that really friendly homely feeling, a Britishness but without the stuffy reserved side, but they do have a quiet reserve and not the loud brashness about them.
And believe me they certainly have a plenty to brag about. All the courses I played this week were fantastic, it's like they have taken all the good things from Britain and the US and dumped the rest. All the courses had bag drops, great food and drink, friendly staff and a warm welcome. The courses like the country itself offers a variety of challenges with some stunning views.
As for Ontario, well I hate winter, but those of you who ski will love it, but for me you can’t beat a sunny day playing golf and then going to chill on the lake, now when I say lake, like everything here it's big so it's more like an ocean. There were many special moments, none more so than being able to dive into a fresh water lake in my hotel one morning at 6am.
But looking over Lake Ontario from the patio of the Drake Devonshire restaurant in Wellington a mist descends and the warm glow of the orange setting sun slides down on the horizon promising another hot day tomorrow, well when you come and visit and see that for yourself - you know like the sharp icy waters of that fresh water lake at 6am - that these are very special moments, and I am sure you will have plenty of them yourself in this beautiful Canadian province.
