The tour heads off to Florida this week and the Champions course at The PGA National Resort. The course was originally designed by George and Tom Fazio in 1981 and Jack Nicklaus was commissioned to undertake a re-design in 2001, adding the famed "Bear Trap" group of holes from the 15th-17th.

With its wide fairways and large accepting greens, the course relies on course management and strategy for its defence. There are 107 bunkers and sixteen of the holes have water on them.

The Championship Course has been dedicated to Jack Nicklaus, in honour, they say, "of a man whose commitment to golf has been an inspiration to the game and personifies the high standard of excellence we associate with the "Player of the Century."

My tips to Win:

With a win in this event back in 2017 and runner-up last year it’s safe to say Rickie Fowler 14/1 – with SportingBet – enjoys playing the PGA National Champions course – Rickie also has two other Top 10s from his ten starts here. Rickie has been working on some swing changes but started the year with a couple of Top 10s, but there has been a missed cut and a Top 40 finish in his last two starts. You can never tell about swing changes until you’re in the heat of battle, but I am sure being here will only be a positive.

Billy Horschel 28/1 – with Ladbrokes – should be in buoyant mood teeing it up here this week, apart from the fact of being back in his home state, his final round 65 at the weekends WGC Mexico Championship that see him move up the leaderboard into the Top 10 – his second Top 10 in his last two starts – shows his golf game is in great shape.

It has been a strange sequence of events for Daniel Berger 33/1 – with SportingBet – at the PGA National Champions course in his first start here Daniel had a runner-up finish and then proceeded to miss the cut in his next two starts, which is the reverse of most players as they learn the intricacies of a course the tendency is to improve each year. Daniel comes into this week on the back of two Top 10 finishes with a Top 5 at the AT&T Pebble Beach ProAm and with two other Top 20s from his eight starts he comes into this week in great form.

Each-way tips:

With a runner-up in this event and a fourth-place finish last year I am sure Ryan Palmer 66/1 – with 888Sport – will be looking forward to this week. Ryan has had a steady time so far on the wraparound season with five Top 25 from his eight starts, but a missed cut put a spoke in the wheel at the Phoenix Open and a third round 81 at the Genesis, but he recovered well to post a final round 72 and I am sure the positive vibes of being back in Florida will see him back to his best this week.

It has been a tough season so far for Emiliano Grillo 80/1 – with Ladbrokes – with five missed cuts from his eleven starts so far on the wraparound season, but a third-place finish at the Puerto Rico Open at the weekend shows there is some light at the end of the tunnel for the Argentinian. Emiliano had a Top 10 here two years ago – he missed the cut last year – firing a final round 66, with a bit of confidence in his golf game I am sure he will be looking forward to this week.

Outside tip:

Unlike many of my other tips Keegan Bradley 80/1 – with SportingBet – hasn’t won or had a runner-up finish in this event he does have a bit of a love/hate affair with the course with four missed cuts and three Top 15 including a Top 5. Keegan missed this event last year and comes into this week with five Top 25 finishes and three missed cuts from his ten starts, so as unpredictable as ever. These are good odds for someone who can suddenly have a great week and is worth a pound each-way.

Longer odds:

Try past champion Luke Donald 350/1 – with UniBet

As always good luck
