| The Riviera Country Club was established in 1926 and has been open for play since 1927. Noted for its spectacular beauty and uniquely challenging design, the George C. Thomas masterpiece is perennially rated among the very finest in the world.
During the courses construction the renowned golf architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie paid a visit to inspect Thomas’s work. Following his tour of the property, Dr. MacKenzie remarked that the site “Was as fine as any I have seen" and that the George C Thomas’ design is “As nearly perfect as man could make it.”
Sometimes known as "Hogan's Alley" because of Ben Hogan's success here, it is also renowned for its par-3 sixth hole with a bunker in the middle of the green.
The 18th is probably one of golf's most unique and most recognised finishing holes. The green rests below the clubhouse in a natural amphitheater and a blind tee shot from below the level of the fairway must carry the crest of the hill to give you a decent look at the green.

My tips to Win:
I am going to be sticking with a couple of players this week and first up is Dustin Johnson 14/1 with SportingBet who has a win and two runners-up in this event in the last six years, he also had another Top 10 here last year. I did tip Dustin last week at the Pebble Beach ProAm and while he started well he slammed it into reverse on the final day firing a 78. I am sure being here and without the distraction of amateur golfers he will be back challenging again this week.
Players seem to need to tee it up a few times at the Riviera CC before they understand the subtleties of this course and Patrick Cantley 20/1 with BetFair is no exception after missing the cut on his first two starts in this event, but with two Top 15s in his last two starts including a fourth-place finish two years ago and in his current form I think Patrick will be challenging again this week.
Its hard to look past Bubba Watson 23/1 with MarathonBet who has won this event three times in the last six years and has four other Top 15 finishes. Bubba didnt play at Pebble Beach last week but did have Top 6 finishes in his last two starts at the Farmers Insurance and WM Phoenix Opens and should be in confident mood this week.
Each-way tips:
Another past champion of this event is Adam Scott 33/1 with UniBet who defended his title with a runner-up finish and has had another runner-up and four Top 15 finishes in this event. This will be Scotts first start on the PGA Tour this year, but he did win on the European Tour in December taking his home PGA Championship title and although he may be a bit ring rusty this is a course Adam enjoys teeing it up on and he will be looking to get his year of to a great start.
Back-to-back third-place finishes should see Phil Mickelson 50/1 with BetFred in confident mood once he gets over his disappointing final round at Pebble Beach at the weekend. Phil seems to love teeing it up at the Riviera Country Club as he has two wins and two runner-up finishes here and with his golf game in great shape, I expect him to be in the thick of it again this week.
Outside tip:
I am going to stick with Max Homa 125/1 with SpreadEx again this week after his third Top 15 finish on the spin at Pebble Beach at the weekend. Like many players Max has also missed the cut here on his first two starts, but did manage to make it inside the Top 40 last year. I believe this will be a more confident Max Homa turning up this week and these could turn out to be very good odds for the Californian.
Longer odds
Try Lanto Griffin 175/1 with SpreadEx
As always good luck
