The juxtaposed position of the lush fairways and the barren desert gave rise to the term 'The Desert Miracle' back in 1988, when Florida-based course designer Karl Litten was commissioned by his Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, when the first all grass championship course emerged from the arid desert sands.

The course came to prominence when it was awarded its first European Tour event back in 1989 when the Dubai Desert Classic was born. The Majlis, which translates to 'Meeting Place' in Arabic, measures

7,211 yards and flows around the original desert dunes. The course features hundreds of indigenous species of flora and fauna which are complemented by the beautifully lush Bermuda grass fairways that wind their way around the seven fresh and salt-water lakes, bringing water into play on ten of the eighteen holes.

My tips to Win:

A final round 63 and a runner-up finish in Abu Dhabi at the weekend should see Tommy Fleetwood 8/1 with UniBet bounce into Dubai and raring to go again. For all his wins in the desert Tommy has only had three Top 20s from his eight starts over the Emirates Golf Club track with two of those being Top 10 finishes. I feel after how well he played on Sunday he will be looking forward to challenging again this week.

Matthew Fitzpatrick 12/1 with UniBet had four runner-up finishes last season on the European Tour and after notching up another at the weekend in Abu Dhabi he will be looking to break that run and get a win asap. Matthew missed the cut here the first time he teed it up in this event and has two Top 20s from his five starts here, his best finish coming two in 2017 but I expect the lad from Sheffield to be in the thick of it come Sunday.

Sergio Garcia 20/1 with SportingBet has a win and a third-place finish here in his last three starts, but it did take the Spaniard a while to feel comfortable on this track. Sergio has only played in this event ten times since he turned pro back in 1999 and he has missed the cut twice and had six Top 20s including that win and third-place finish. I am sure finishing in the Top 10 in Abu Dhabi at the weekend will be the confidence boost to the start of the new season he needs coming into this week.

Each-way tips:

Another past champion of this event is Haotong Li 40/1 with SpreadEx who won here two years ago and defended his title with a Top 15 finish after a disastrous final round of 73, which see him slide out of the runner-up spot and down the leaderboard and out of the Top 10. Put into context Haotong has only played in this event three times and has a win and a Top 15 and I think these are great odds.

This will be Robert Macintyre 50/1 with UniBet first event of the new season and it will also be the first time he has teed it up in this tournament. I am sure Robert has been practicing hard over the winter break and taking everything he achieved in his first full season on the European tour in, which included three runner-up finishes. Macintyre finished the year with five Top 20 finishes which included three Top 10s and I expect him to get off to a quick start this week.

Outside Tip:

Last season ended well for Jason Scrivener 100/1 with SpreadEx with three Top 25 finishes from his last three starts which included a third-place finish at the Nedbank and a Top 10 at the World Tour Championship, which is also held in Dubai. Jason has teed it up in this event three times and has finished inside the Top 10 twice in the last two years and I think these are great odds for the Australian.

Longer odds:

Try Renato Paratore 150/1 with VBet

As always good luck
