| The European Tour continues its world domination and moves from its desert swing down to Australia and the ISPS Handa Vic Open, which is a new sponsor for the event this year.
An hour’s drive from Melbourne Thirteenth Beach Golf Links lies on the south coast of the Bellarine Peninsula. Design by Tony Cashmore and opened for play in 2001 'The Beach Course" sits nestled among the sand dunes on the southern side of the property just a stone’s throw from the beach.
Like all links courses the elements which can change very quickly will play a bit part this week but not all the course is set in the dunes, other parts of the course run down into a more swampy type area.
One of the holes to look out for on the run in is the par 3, 16th hole at only 122-yards, this hole has been compared to the postage stamp at Troon because every side of the green falls away to either a bunker or deep rough and when the wind blows, then hitting and staying on the putting surface becomes twice as hard, but all the par 3s on this course are great golf holes.
There are a variety of par-4’s and par-5’s with strategically placed bunkers, clinging rough and plenty of risk and reward for the long hitters.

My tips to Win:
Having only played in two events so far this season Jason Scrivener 16/1 – with Ladbrokes – hasn’t really challenged but having taken the extra week off to prepare for this week I am sure he will be looking forward to this week. Jason had a Top 5 here last year and started last season well and I believe he feels this week could kick start his year.
I did tip Ryan Fox 20/1 – with WilliamHill – as my Longer odds tip last week and he opened up with a 66 in Saudi only to follow that up with a 75 that see him slip out of contention and while he did play some solid golf the rest of the week the damage had already been done. Ryan missed out after the third round cut here last year, due to a third round 76 after being in a great position, something I think he will be looking to put right this week.
Hold a big tournament in his homeland and Wade Ormsby 25/1 – with VBet – seems to pull out all the stops to play well in front of a partisan crowd. Wade had a runner-up finish in this event last year, unfortunately a third round 74 put him out of contention in the Australian Open in December, but two weeks later he had a third-place finish at the Australian PGA Championship and I am sure he will be looking forward to this week.
Each-way tips:
Nick Cullen 50/1 – with SportingBet – doesn’t have a win here but he does have a runner-up finish and made the Top 25 last year. Like Matthew, Nick got off to a great start with an opening round of 66, but couldn’t sustain that form for the third and final rounds. This will be Nick’s second start of the European Tour wraparound season after his Top 15 at the Australian PGA Championship in December and I am sure he will be looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd.
Matthew Griffin 66/1 – with BoyleSport – has a win and a runner-up finish in this event and has several other tournaments wins on the Australasia Tour. Matthew opened up with a 65 here last year to get off to a great start but unfortunately couldn’t keep that form going deeper into the tournament, but with his course knowledge I expect him to do well here this week.
Outside tip:
Nick Flanagan 80/1 – with VBet – has two career wins on the Australasia Tour and had a third-place finish at the back end of last year in the Australian PGA Championship. Nick opened up with a 62 in this event last year on the way to a Top 10 finish.
Longer odds:
Try 2015 champion Richard Green 200/1 – with SportingBet
As always good luck
