The co-sanctioned leg of the European and Sunshine Tours now moves to the beautiful island of Mauritius and I will be actually be attending this event again this year, but this time in the north of the island at the Mont Choisy Le Golf.
Designed by Peter Matkovich who also designed Heritage Golf Club and the Avalon Golf Estate in the south of the island see my reviews of those courses here the course was officially opened by Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth in October 2017.
Weighing in at 7,050-yds the championship course at Mont Choisy Le Golf is the central sporting component of a modern residential development near the seaside resorts of Grand Baie and Trou aux Biches.
The course captures the beauty of the north of the island with its mountain views and distinctive Mauritian landscaping including the black volcanic rock which has been used for outcrops and waste areas. The palm lined fairways are routed around several small lakes and water hazards feature prominently on several holes on both front and back nines.
The signature hole is the short par three 15th, which is played across a wetland area to an island green thats framed by an old, tall stone chimney and original feature that dates back to Mont Choisy estates agricultural past.
My tips to Win:
It was a bit of an up and down season last wraparound season for Dean Burmester 13/2 With BetFred but he did have a couple of runner-up finishes. Dean has started this wraparound season with two Top 10 finishes from his two starts and I feel he will be the man to beat this week
Still waiting for his first win on the European tour is Oliver Bekker 22/1 With BetFred who has two Top 15 finishes from his three starts on the co-sanction African leg of the European Tour this season including his fourth-place finish at the weekends Dunhill Championship. Oliver also had a third-place finish at the VOG Final on the Sunshine Tour in October
I am going to stick with Jayden Schaper 30/1 With 10Bet again this week. Jayden slipped out of contention with two final rounds of 72 at the Dunhill Championship at the weekend, but just missed out of making it three Top 25 finishes from three starts on this wraparound season by a shot. Schaper does have two runner-up finishes and has only been outside the Top 20 twice so far on the Sunshine Tour including the weekends result
Each-way tips:
A runner-up finish at the Australian PGA Championship and just missing out on a Top 25 finish at the Dunhill Championship by a shot, Ryo Hisatsune 50/1 With LiveScoreBet won three times on the Japan Challenge Tour last year and has teed it up six times on the Asian Tour finishing inside the Top 15 in his last three events, so he will arrive here in confident mood this week
Three Top 20 finishes from his three starts so far on this years wraparound season should see Tom McKibbin 50/1 With LiveScoreBet arrive in Mauritius in Buoyant mood. Tom moved up from the Challenge Tour this season after having a runner-up and seven other Top 10s four of which were Top 5s and he will be looking to keep this run going in Mauritius
Outside tip:
I have said many times that I felt it was a mistake for Lucas Bjerregaard 90/1 With SkyBet to make his move to the PGA Tour, but It looks like he will be back on the European Tour this year and I expect to see a more settled player. Lucas has had a few weeks off since the Portugal Masters, but I think these could prove to be very good odds
