The force pushes me further into the back of my seat, then there is the roar of the engines and the tip of the plane lifts up. At this point I feel a mixture of sadness and nausea but it's not from flying, I quite like flying, especially that thrust of power at take off, no this feeling is from leaving behind two wonderful islands that I have spent the last week visiting.
Of course we all love feeling the sun on our bodies especially in February when it's cold, damp and snowing at home and base layers, waterproofs, woollen hats and hand and back warmers are the norm. It’s been a week of polo shirts, shorts and factor 50 sun lotion and I still managed a golfers tan!
Add in great food, beer – who would have thought St Kitts is the home of Skol lager – Rum punches that certainly pack a punch and of course how can I forget Nevis’s own Killer Bees now that is a cocktail with a potent kick!
The people are wonderful, a welcoming smile and can do manner make the whole St Kitts and Nevis experience one to remember and will have you planning your next visit. Add a mix of culture, history, mountain biking, zip lining and as much water sports as you can throw an ocean at. But why stop at an ocean when you also have the choice of the calmer Caribbean Sea to choose from as well.
For golfers St Kitts and Nevis is gearing up to become a great golf destination, with two stunning courses already established, St Kitts GC with its holes running along the Atlantic Ocean on the back nine and the backdrop of the Caribbean Sea on some holes on the front nine it’s a wonderful course. Add the Four Seasons Nevis course with its wonderful elevated tees, monkeys playing and watching at the side of the fairways and those wonderful Atlantic Ocean and St Kitts views. The good news is there is an amazing Ian Woosnam course that is just waiting to bed in which has some of the best ocean and island views in the world and a Tom Fazio course that should start to take shape over the next year or so.
And the best way to play golf and explore both islands is to tee it up in the annual Admirals Cup ProAm. There are teams from the US, Canada and the UK, it' also a great way to meet some wonderful people. The week kicks off with the Super Bowl party and I am not even into American Football, but that was a great night and the start to a wonderful week on and off the course.
The words of my driver are still ringing in my ear as the plane starts to level out, come back and see us soon. I certainly will, St Kitts and Nevis you have been awesome thank you for a wonderful week of fun in the sun.
