Golf Monthly is the market leading golfing magazine in the UK. It's a lively and welcoming read that is targeted at good golfers who are regular players - and keen to get even better.
With over 100 years of heritage and authority behind it, it represents the real 'voice of golf' with leading columnists, top players and unrivalled coverage of equipment and instruction.
The European Tour now moves from Spain to The Algarve for the Portugal Masters which has been held on the Victoria course since 2007 with Steve Webster winning its inaugural event. Spain’s Alvaro Quiros shot a final round of 68 to win the 2008 title by three shots ahead of Scotland’s Paul Lawrie.
Lee Westwood and Richard Green lifted the title in 2009 and 2010 while Tom Lewis is the only player to have won it twice so far, winning in 2011 and 2018. Lewis birdied five of the last seven holes to claim his maiden title in only his third professional start, he also shot a 61 the day after Oliver Wilson shot 59 on his way to winning for the second time.
Designed by Arnold Palmer the Oceanico Victoria Course is a beautifully manicured track that weighs in at 7,227-yards. The club is situated in the Golf-Mekka Vilamoura area. The terrain is flat but don’t let that put you off its a breathtaking design. Each hole has 5 teeing options and the course features are the many lakes and waterfalls as well as the strategically placed bunkers.

My tips to Win:
With three Top 5 finishes including his runner-up finish at the BMW Championship from his last four starts Laurie Canter 20/1 – with MansionBet – is in great form coming into this week and I am not sure if he really wanted the weeks break to be honest. Laurie has played in this event four times and missed the cut twice times but he took the runner-up spot last year and in his current form he will be looking to challenge again this week.
This weeks defending champion is George Coetzee 50/1 – with BetVictor – who shot three rounds of 66 on his way to win here last year has only been outside of the Top 25 once from his eight starts and has four Top 10s including last years win over the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course.
It has been a bit of an up and down season for another past champion of this event Andy Sullivan 60/1 – with OddsChecker – Andy broke his five year stretch of not winning a tournament last year by winning the English Championship, his first win since his Portugal Masters victory back in 2015. Sullivan also defended his title with a runner-up finish and has had two other Top 20 finishes here since then.
Each-way tips
Its taken a while for Lucas Bjerregaard 80/1 – with UniBet – to settle down from his stint on the PGA Tour, but there have been signs that he is coming back into form over the last couple of months, where he has played more consistent golf although he has not really challenged. Lucas is a past champion here and has three other Top 20 finishes from his seven starts and I think being back here and those positive memories could just be the trigger he needs.
I am going to stick with Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez 100/1 – with BetFred – after his Top 5 finish at the Mallorca Open, which followed on from his Top 25 at a very tough Real Club Valderrama. Sebastian had a Top 6 the first time he teed it up in this event last year firing all four rounds under par and he should arrive in confident mood and I feel he will be challenging again come Sunday
Outside tip:
Another player that seems on a rollercoaster ride this season is Niklas Lemke 125/1 – with SpreadEx – but he does come into this week on the back of a Top 10 at the Mallorca Golf Open where he opened up with a 63. Niklas has only played in this event twice and had a sixth-place finish last year and after his performance in Mallorca he will certainly be in buoyant mood when he arrives here this week.
