The European Tour stays in mainland Europe and moves to Italy and the 2023 Ryder Cup venue which is based an hours drive from the centre of Rome, near the near the historic hill town of Tivoli and their World Heritage protected houses with the conical roofs.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club was designed by Jim Fazio back in the late 1980s and lies within a beautiful old estate complete with a restored 11th century castle that belongs to fashion designer Laura Biagiotti and the 7,000 square metre clubhouse is one of the largest in Europe.

This isn’t the first time the Marco Simone course has held the Italian Open, Eduardo Romero won here back in 1994. Since then Fazio’s son Tom was commission to completely renovate the course for the 2020 Ryder Cup, but COVID has obviously pushed that back to 2023.

Built around the castle several holes have views of the dome of Saint Peter church and while not admiring the dome then you can take in the inspiring views of the Italian countryside. Water is a key feature here and comes into play on ten of the holes and especially on the last three holes. With the green on the par 5, 18th being protected down the left hand side and with bunkers right and just short you really have to be accurate if you are going for the green in two.

My tips to Win:

I am sure Ryder Cup captain Pádraig Harrington will be looking to see how Bernd Wiesberger 20/1 – with SportNation – reacts to his stunning implosion at last weekends Omega European Masters, where he seemed to have the tournament won, only to drop a shot at the 15th and another two at the 18th to let Rasmus Højgaard take the victory. If Bernd wants to make the Ryder Cup team then I feel that he has to step up this week and be right in the thick of it as I don’t think he is going to get a pick and a win will go a long way to cementing his place

And of course with the Ryder Cup being played in Rome in 2023 another player that will be busting a gut to get onto that team will be Italian Guido Migliozzi 28/1 – with OddsChecker – who I did tip for the Omega European Masters where he had a tied seventh-place finish, which I feel shows he is coming back into form heading into his countries national title. I am sure Guido can handle the pressure of playing in front of a partisan crowd and will be looking to etch his name in that trophy come Sunday.

It’s been a great few week for Calum Hill 33/1 – with SportingBet – who has a win and two Top 10s, one of which was a Top 5 finish at the Hero Open and his seventh-place finish at the weekends Omega European Masters. I am sure some of the younger players on tour who are starting to come through will be looking at this week to put in a good performance with this being the 2023 Ryder Cup venue and Calum is certainly one of those players who will be wanting to be part of that team.

Each-way tips:

Coming into this week bang in form is American Sean Crocker 35/1 – with OddsChecker – who had a forth-place finish at the weekends Omega European Masters which came on the back of his runner-up finish the week before at the D+D Real Czech Masters. It seems this season has been a lot of stops and starts for Sean, but when he does get on a roll he can put himself right in the thick of the battle and I expect him to be there again this week.

A player that has got used to winning over the last couple of year is Antoine Rozner 40/1 – with MansionBet – who notched up his second win on the main European Tour earlier this year at the Qatar Masters after winning at the Golf in Dubai Championship last year – he also had two wins on the Challenge Tour in 2019. I am sure Antonie will come bouncing into this week full of confidence after his final round 62 at the weekends Omega European Masters and he will certainly fancy his chances this week.

Outside tip:

Another player heading home to Italy and looking forward to playing in front of home support will be Renato Paratore 110/1 – with OddsChecker – who played will in Switzerland and was right in the thick of it heading into Sunday only to shoot a final round 73 that see him slide down the leaderboard six places. There was a three year gap between Renato taking his maiden victory on the European Tour and his win last year at the British Masters and while this year hasn’t gone to plan that could all be put behind him if he plays well here this week.

Longer odds:

Try David Law 175/1 – with OddsChecker

As always good luck
