| Firstly, congratulations to Collin Morikawa on winning his first Major Championship in style, that tee shot on the 16th was a stroke of a true champion in the heat of battle. The tour now moves to Greensboro, North Carolina and the last event of the rescheduled regular tour events before starting the Tour Championship play-off tournaments.
I am sure we will be in for some exciting golf again this weekend, especially for the guys on the bubble trying to make the FedEx Cup play-offs and Sedgefield CC couldn’t be a better course to be playing this event on.
Donald Ross originally designed Sedgefield Country Club back in 1926 the track was redesigned by Kris Spence in 2007, the restoration project took 10 months to complete at a cost of $3 million which transformed the course back to how Donald Ross envisaged the course to play.
Now measuring 7,130-yards and a par 70, the course doesn’t play that long from the tees but emphasis is on strategy and being in the right section of these rolling fairways. The small greens are very undulating and slope from back to front, with many falling off the edges into collection areas. The layout has a reputation for low scoring, which should make for an exciting tournament this week

My tips to Win:
I am going to stick with Webb Simpson 10/1 – with SportingBet – this week and I was surprised he didn’t at least challenge in the weekend’s PGA Championship considering his form coming into last week. Webb is a past champion here and has been runner-up the last two years, so if he could pick a course to get back to winning ways then Sedgefield CC would be high on his list of courses to tee it up on.
I am sure Patrick Reed 16/1 – with SportingBet – will be happy with his solid if unspectacular performance at TPC Harding Park and although he may not have been in the thick of battle his final round of 66 did see him move into the Top 15 his third since the restart. Of his five starts in at the Wydham Championship Patrick has a win and three other Top 25 finishes, so it’s a course he normally plays well on.
How will Paul Casey 20/1 – with SportingBet – react to his runner-up finish at the PGA Championship? Going by his TV interviews he seems to except that he was beaten on the day by someone who was playing great golf and that he himself played well and would take a lot of positives from his performance. Hopefully the what ifs, have dissipated by the time Thursday comes and if they have and he keeps that PGA form coming into this week, he will certainly be in the thick of it again come Sunday.
Each-way tips:
I have tipped Billy Horschel 33/1 – with SportingBet – a couple of times so far since the restart and he is certainly playing like someone who is about to put four good rounds of golf together. Billy was another player that played solid golf at the PGA finishing level par, but he did come into last week on the back of three consecutive Top 25s, but he is coming back to a course that took him a while to work out, but he has since had three Top 15 finishes including a Top 5 and a sixth-place finish last year.
It took Si Woo Kim 40/1 – with SportingBet – a couple of events to get used to the new playing conditions on the PGA Tour and after missing his first two cuts he finished just outside the Top 10 at the Travelers Championship firing a final round 65. Si Woo may not have threatened the top of the leaderboard at Harding Park but shooting all four rounds in the 60s on a tough course showed great consistency to finish inside the Top 15 and he will be looking forward to getting back to a course that he has won on and had a Top 5 from his three starts.
Outside tip:
I was going to tip Lanto Griffin but he decided yesterday to pull out of this week event so my back up tip who I have been watching for a while is Sepp Straka 100/1 – with BetFair – to step in. Sepp did make the cut at the PGA but finished outside the Top 50, he has had three Top 20s since the restart and opened up with rounds of 65 and 66 at this tournament last year, but his final round let him down which I am sure he will learn from this week.
Longer odds:
Try Ryan Armour 150/1 – with BetFred
As always good luck
