| The rescheduled European Tour now moves from its UK Swing to continental Europe and pitches up at the beautiful Real Club Valderrama.
The Andalucia Masters is now in its sixth year of its comeback with the backing of Sergio Garcia’s Foundation and teeing up at Europe’s very own “Augusta”, the Robert Trent Jones designed Valderrama.
Originally known as Los Aves sitting above the Andalucian village of Sotogrande, billionaire Jaime Ortiz-Patino purchased the course and asked Trent Jones to come back out and reshape the course in 1985. The course has hosted the Volvo Masters but is most notably remembered for Seve’s captaining of the 1997 Ryder Cup matches.
The 17th hole is the most memorable hole from those Ryder Cup matches and became the perfect risk and reward hole. Named Los Gabiones it was once just a long par five before Trent Jones' redesign and by adding the water feature just in front of the green, it became a must watch hole during the 1997 matches.
In June 2014 King Juan Carlos of Spain granted Valderrama the Royal title, the club is now known as Real Club Valderrama.

My tips to Win:
I will be sticking with quite a few players this week mainly because they are all in form. First up is last week’s winner looking to go for back-to-back wins is Rasmus Højgaard 12/1 – with SportingBet – Rasmus made it two wins on the European Tour this season by taking the UK Championship at the Belfry, but it’s his record since the restart of runner-up, sixth-place, third-place and win from his last four starts that makes him the favourite this week.
The same can be said of Andy Sullivan 16/1 – with Ladbrokes – who has a win and two other Top 10 finishes from his five starts. There was a blip that normally happens after a win at the Wales Open but a week’s rest and Andy was back inside the Top 10 again at the Belfry. Sullivan does have a slight advantage over Rasmus in that he knows the Real Club Valderrama course and has two Top 20 finishes here from his two starts
One player who knows the Real Club Valderrama course very well is Joost Luiten 22/1 – with SportingBet – who had a runner-up here in 2017, he also has a Top 5 and two other Top 20s from his five starts. Joost has had a problem finishing tournaments off since we came back from lockdown, especially in Austria where he played some great golf the first couple of days but just couldn’t close it out. I think a couple of weeks rest and being back on this course will bring back those positive vibes this week.
Each-way tips:
After his performance at the weekend I was pleasantly surprised to see Jorge Campillo 40/1 – with 888Sport – this far down the betting odds. Jorge won just before the lockdown at the Qatar Masters but decided to make his comeback event the PGA Championship and promptly missed the cut on a very tough course – no surprise having no tournament preparation beforehand. But after acclimatising at the Celtic Classic but missing the cut, he has followed that up with two Top 10 finishes and coming back to his home country on a course where he had a Top 15 last year I think these are very good odds.
Sami Välimäki 50/1 – with SpreadEx – was another player that took a while to get used to the new playing conditions and although he did make the cut in both Austrian events he didn’t really challenge, he then missed the cut at the British Masters. Since then Sami has had a sixth place and a runner-up finish to add to his win which came just before the lockdown. Again I think these are good odds for someone who has started to find his form.
Outside tip:
I did tip Marcus Armitage 75/1 – OddsChecker – a few weeks ago as he has been in solid form the last few weeks after getting off to a slow start at the British Masters he has since recorded three Top 15 finishes with his best since the restart coming at the weekends UK Championship where he had a seventh-place finish. Marcus finished third at the South African Open early in the year to regain his tour card and he seems to have found some form since the restart. Marcus has played this course before missing the cut back in 2017, but I think he may just be the surprise package challenging the Top 5 this week.
Longer odds:
Try Nacho Elvira 160/1 – with Oddschecker
As always good luck
