The European Tours UK Swing continues this week and moves to Hertfordshire and the Hanbury Manor Golf and Country Club which officially open for play in 1991, but there is a rich history to this venue.

The manor house itself was built in 1890 for the Hanbury brewing family and converted to a girls boarding school in 1923, the transformation from boarding school to a luxury hotel came about in 1986, but golf featured before its rebirth as a hotel. Six-time Open Champion Harry Vardon – who also won the US Open in 1900 – was commissioned to produce a 9-hole golf course on the estate in the early 1900s and this is what gives this golf course its unique variety as the second nine was added by Jack Nicklaus ll in 1990.

The original 9-hole course meanders through majestic parkland, but behind the manor house was undulating farmland and this was used for the addition of nine new holes to complete the new 18-hole layout which gives the course its distinct two loops of nine.

The course opens up with the new Nicklaus designed undulating holes that run down to the River Rib with water featuring at the 2nd and 6th holes, but it’s on the 8th hole that it really comes into play and with out-of-bounds running all the way along the right hand side you play your second shot to an elevated green that is protected by a lake and you can see why this is the courses stroke index 1.

The back nine features the more memorable holes, playing through majestic oaks and across numerous lakes, with water coming into play again at the 13th and 17th holes. Hanbury Manor will not be just a physical test for the players this week, but also one of mental strength, nerve and character.

My tips to Win:

I did tip Thomas Detry 12/1 – with UniBet – a couple of weeks ago, but didn’t last week when a missed putt on the 18th cost him a place in the play-off and you could see how much it hurt him as he walked off. It will be a test of character how he bounces back this week, one thing is for sure he will be doing everything he can to have a cushion coming down the final hole come Sunday afternoon.

I am going to stick with Rasmus Hψjgarrd 16/1 – with BetWay – this week after his third Top 6 finish from four starts at the Hero Open at the weekend. Like Detry I am sure Rasmus was disappointed with his final round 72, but he will want to take full advantage of his current form to bag his second European Tour victory of the wraparound season.

Each-way tips

I have decided to go with three each-way tips this week as I think there are some players on longer odds that may just peak this week and first up is Aaron Rai 50/1 – with SpreadEx – who followed his Top 25 finish at the British Masters with a Top 10 at the Hero Open at the weekend firing a final round 68 and on his current progression he should be in the thick of it come Sunday.

Another player that finished well on Sunday at the Hero Open was Scott Jamieson 50/1 – with SkyBet – shooting a final round 65 with four birdies on each nine, the only blemish was a drop shot on the 4th. Scott did play well at the British Masters but a final round 75 put paid to any chances of finishing well. Jamieson had two Top 12 finishes on the desert swing of the tour and now with a couple of events under his belt I am sure he will be in confident mood teeing up Thursday after that Sunday finish.

What Ashley Chesters 55/1 – with BetFair – needs is consistency over four rounds, for the last two weeks one round has cost him at the Hero Open it was his second round 72 and at the British Masters it was his final round 74, the other three rounds in each event have been under par. Ashley has played solid golf since turning professional but has not really challenged his best finish being a Top 5 in 2018, but I think this UK Swing could just see him better that.

Outside tips:

I am going to stick with Joachim B Hansen 125/1 – with BetFred – again this week and I know he will be disappointed after his final round 75 see him slide out of contention at the weekends Hero Open especially after firing a third round 66 that really set him up to challenge. JB is another player that just needs consistency across four rounds of golf, but he has won on the challenge tour and I think these are good odds for someone who can shoot some low numbers.

Longer odds:

Try Nacho Elvira 160/1 – with Oddschecker

As always good luck
