| Congratulations to Bryson DeChambeau on his amazing US Open win the only man under par on a very tough Winged Foot course. The PGA Tour moves to the beautiful island of the Dominican Republic to the Punta Cana Resort and the Corales course.
Driving through the Punta Cana estate takes me back to when I was here back in late 2008. I was taken round the Tom Fazio-designed course, but at that time the grass had just been seeded. Those memories trigger my excitement as we turn up the road and past the practice ground on my left, which is probably where you will be dropped off. But first I have a few people to meet, and as I’m shaking hands I can see the course just behind the pro shop – it’s just tugging at me.
I jump in the buggy with my caddie and it’s down to the well-appointed practice ground to loosen up, then it’s off to the first tee. Now, I have to say that if you miss this fairway you should head back down to the range! It’s wide and even from the back tees at 433-yards, it’s a nice opening hole – the sea is not in full view but you get some tantalising glimpses, and when the wind blows I am sure you will be able to feel it.
The second is the first of the four great par 3s, and there really isn’t a weak one on the course, with water coming into play on one and the sea on two. With 239 yards between me and the pin this is no pushover, playing to a raised green protected by five deep bunkers and a waste area that runs all the way along the right hand side.

My tips to Win:
It has been a great year so far for Mackenzie Hughes 20/1 with UniBet who qualified for the first time to compete in the FedEx Cup Tour Championship it was his fourth appearance in the FedEx Cup play-offs where he finished fourteenth on the tour rankings. Mackenzie does have a PGA Tour win taking The RSM Classic title back in 2017, but in his current form, finishing runner-up here last year and this field he will be fancying his chances of adding to that solitary victory this week.
Without being disrespectful to the rest of the field this is the type of tournament Emiliano Grillo 28/1 with SportingBet when he tees it up should be winning, especially with this field. It says a lot about his temperament that the bookies dont even have him as favourite this week. That being said surely at some point the penny has to drop that you can hit a bad shot and recover and not let it affect the rest of your round, if he can do that then he will be in one of the final pairings come Sunday.
I am sure Charles Howell lll 30/1 with Ladbrokes will not be wanting a twelve-year gap between victories again and will be looking to get another win under his belt asap after his win at the 2019 RSM Classic, when he beat Patrick Rodgers in a Play-off. Charles become one of only nine players to qualify for all of the FedEx Cup play-offs over the last fourteen years and he will be looking to get off to a good start to keep that run going.
Each-way tips:
This will be Austrian Matthias Schwab 40/1 with SportingBet first full season on the PGA Tour, he did get last seasons wraparound tour off to a good start with a Top 5 finish at the WGC HSBC Champions tournament and had a third-place finish at the Barracuda Championship but only managed to play in seven tournaments. Matthias recorded five Top 5 finishes in the space of nine events at the end of the 2019 European Tour season so he has the game to do well here this week.
It is going to be interesting watching how Thomas Detry 40/1 with UniBet gets on this week having decided to tee it up on the PGA Tour rather than at the Irish Open. The reason I say that is because Thomas has had two runner-up finishes on the European Tour and another Top 10 since we have come out of lockdown from his seven starts. Detry was sitting just outside the Top 25 going into the last round of the US Open but a final round of 81 put paid to any chances of challenging, hopefully his confidence hasnt taken to much of a knock.
Longer odds tips:
I am going for two longer odds tips this week and droping the outside tip, the reason I have picked Kelly Kraft 300/1 with Ladbrokes – is because of the two years this event has been played he has had third and fifth finishes here even when he has not been playing well generally and that is hard to ignore when you can get him at these odds. The same applies to George McNeill 400/1 with SportingBet who has thirteen and seventh place finishes here.
As always good luck
