| The European Tour heads off to Malelane and the stunning Leopard Creek CC for the Alfred Dunhill Championship. It’s the fifthteenth time that the tournament will be held at the Gary Player designed course.
The Innovative design and landscaping techniques used have ensured Leopard Creek golf course and living areas are naturally protected from animals. Lakes and small streams have been diverted through the development to not only create some stunning views, but to make this track a very strategic one.
Much of the water is home to the magnificent creatures for which the river is named. Extensive use of water features and sightings of crocodile, hippo, antelope, buffalo and wild boar are commonplace, either on the course itself or next to the river running alongside several holes.
The 552 yard par-five 13th is one of Leopard Creek’s signature holes. The green is right on the edge of the Crocodile River but 32 metres above the level of the water, offering spectacular views up the river and into Kruger Park.

My tips to Win:
Past champion Brandon Stone 16/1 – with UniBet – has teed it up in this event four times and his record stands at one win and two Top 20 finishes from those four starts, so to say the course suits his eye would be an understatement. In his last five starts Brandon has only been outside the Top 20 once and comes into this week on the back of a Top 5 finish at the Joburg Open.
There is a lot of talk about Wilco Nienaber 25/1 – with BetFred – and the distance he hits the ball, but there is more to his game than just smashing the ball miles and I think he proved that at the weekends Joburg Open where he was runner-up his third Top 6 finish so far this year.
After getting off to a good start at the Joburg Open Daniel Van Tonder 45/1 – with SportingBet – took a nosedive down the leaderboard, but Daniel did come into last week’s event on the back of three Top 10 finishes on the South African swing of the European Challenge Tour and has seven wins on the Sunshine Tour this year and has only been outside the Top 10 once in his 10 starts up until his Joburg Open finish. Van Tonder has three Top 20 finishes in this event and I think these are great odds for someone who has won seven times in a year on any tour.
Each-way tips:
This week’s defending champion is Pablo Larrazábal 50/1 – with BetFred – and while he may not be playing his best golf at the moment he has been playing some steady golf and I think most of you know by now how I feel about defending champions. Not many win back-to-back but most do try to challenge and Pablo certainly has the game and has won the BMW International Open twice, which shows he enjoys going back and competing at venues he has won at.
I am going to stick with Scott Jamieson 50/1 – with BetFred – again this week and as I said last week he does seem to enjoy the African swing of the tour and had a Top 20 finish at the weekends Joburg Open. Scott started the restart with two Top 10 finishes from his first two starts and while he starts tournaments well he hasn’t been able to be consistent, but he does have three Top 5 finishes at Leopard Creek so he obviously enjoys the track hopefully he can put four great rounds together this week.
Outside tip
With two Top 10 finishes in this event over the last two years Zander Lombard 80/1 – with UniBet – certainly has enjoyed teeing it up at Leopard Creek in the last couple of years and one of those finishes was a third place. Zander’s Top 15 finish at the weekends Joburg Open was his best placing since the restart, so with his game starting to hit form and coming back to a course he enjoys playing, I feel he is definitely worth a punt this week.
Longer odds:
Try Lorenzo Gagli 150/1 – with Ladbrokes
As always good luck
