The European tour moves from Africa to the Abu Dhabi Golf Club in the UAE for the HSBC Golf Championship. This is the first of two Peter Harradine designed courses hosting the European Tour, the other being the Doha Golf Club which hosts the Qatar Masters next week.

The course weaves through undulating terrain and features palms, ornamental trees, shrubs, seven saltwater lakes, strategically placed bunkers and generous greens. The course opened for play in October 2000, where its iconic clubhouse in the shape of a falcon with outstretched wings underwent a refurbishment for last year’s event.

The course also had a bit of a make-over for the 2011 tournament, with new tees on the 8th and 10th, the 6th and 14th were extended taking the total yardage to a testing 7,590 yds, which will test one of the best fields to be assembled for a golf tournament so far this year.

My tips to win:

I think this year Rory McIlroy 9/2 – with Bet365 – may finally get over the winners line. Rory has had six Top 5 finishes in this event since 2009, he has only been outside that Top 5 once and has no less than four runners-up places. I think the added incentive to get over the line this year will be that Jordan Spieth 5/1 – with StanJames – is in the field this week and that may just spar the Irishman to take this tournament by the scruff of its neck from day one.

Someone who has managed to get over the winners line in this event is Martin Kaymer 22/1 – with Bet365 – who has won three times here. Martin’s record from 2008 – 2011 reads win, runners-up, win, win and someone who can produce that consistency and then follow that up with another two Top 10s - including a third place finish last year - has to be worth taking a look at.

Matthew Fitzpatrick 40/1 – with BetVictor – doesn’t quite have the same record as Rory and Martin but that is only a matter of time having only turned professional in 2014 and playing his first full season on the European Tour last year. The Yorkshireman didn’t take long to chalk up his first tournament victory at the British Masters, he then followed that up with five Top 15 finishes from his next six starts, that included two other Top 5 finishes. I think we will see Matthew picking up a few more wins this year.

My each-way tip

I am sure Austrian Bernd Wiesberger 66/1 – with BetVictor – would have enjoyed playing in last week's EurAsia cup and given him a taste of what he could experience if he makes this year's Ryder Cup team. Bernd will have to get a couple of wins to his name if he is to make the team and playing in an event where he had a Top 6 finish last year firing second and third rounds of 65, 66 respectively should give him plenty of confidence coming into this week.

Someone who would have been disappointed to have not made the EurAsia Cup team would be Joost Luiten 66/1 – with Bet365 – who I think will make a great Ryder Cup player when he finally makes the team. When the Dutchman is in full flight there are not to many better players to watch and his aggressive brand of golf would be ideal in the white heat of combat. Joost didn’t play in this event last year but the two previous years he had two Top 6 finishes. Luiten will be looking to getting off to a good start this year and he already has a Top 5 in this year's wraparound season.

My outside tip

One player I am going to stick with from last week is Tyrrell Hatton 125/1 – with Coral – who has had two Top 10 finishes in the last two years here and has improved each year. Tyrrell didn’t perform that well at last week's Joburg Open, but it was his first tournament of the year and now the rust has been knocked off I think he will be in a better place to compete this week.

As always good luck
