As the European Tour makes its way to The Netherlands, the players won’t have far to travel once they land at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport. Designed by Masters champion Ian Woosnam and Belgian designer, Bruno Steensels of Mastergolf, the course is just yards from passport control at Amsterdam airport.
Sitting to the east of the Buitenveldertbaan and Oostbaan runways TV will have a lot of air traffic noise to battle with this week and for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and the general white noise of life, may want to give this track a miss.
The International course runs as an outside to inside clockwise to counter clockwise routing and with the terrain in The Netherlands being quite flat this designed enhanced what elevation changes that were available.
The course is relatively short going by today’s standards for a championship course, measuring only 6,966-yards with a par of 73, so the winning score could well be up in the -20s. Strategy is the key on this dramatic dune landscape with undulating fairways – some featuring water – and greens that can measure over 60-yard deep, which can get up to Augusta like speeds.
While the opening holes are interesting it does go a bit flat in the middle but builds and starts to become more dramatic from the par-5 15th hole, with the 18th being the courses signature hole, where water guards the green short and left and bunkers running down the right of the fairway.
My tips to Win:
Jayden Schaper 18/1 – with Bet365 – A weeks rest after missing the cut at the PGA Championship and a Top 25 finish in Belgium, I expect Jayden to be back challenging this week, who had a third-place finish here last year
Daniel Hillier 20/1 – with Bet365 – Started the year well with four Top 6s including a runner-up but went off the boil. Had his first Top 10 since February at the weekend in Austria
Each-way tips:
Joost Luiten 40/1 – with BetFred – Has two wins and a runner-up finish in his home open and will want to do well in front of home support. Comes into this week on the back of a Top 10 finish in Austria
Ricardo Gouveia 50/1 – with BetFred – Should be full of confidence after his runner-up finish in Austria, which made it his fourth Top 25 finish in four starts
