The European Tour returns this week with the Dubai Invitational which was first played in 2024 and has been added to this years schedule, and will be played at the Dubai Creek Golf Club, that hosted the Dubai Desert Classic back in 1999 and 2000 won by David Howell and José Coceres respectively.
The course was designed by Thomas Bjorn in 1993 and as you can imagine from the course name the Dubai creek and marina feature prominently. Located along the banks of the city’s famous river, the well-kept fairways are surrounded by date palms and coconut trees. The water hazards and shrubs give the championship course its tropical feel.
The first par 3 on the course arrives at the 139-yd 5th and has the creek waiting at the back of the green, but its the sunning backdrop of Burj Khalifa and the downtown skyline that make this a special hole.
I am sure the floating tee at the 6th tee will feature heavily on TV, One of the highlights on the back nine will be the par 5, 13th which features an island green accessible by a foot bridge. The 18th has the creek running down the entire left-hand side of the fairway, there is also a lake on the right oh and there’s a large lake that pinches in from the right in front of the huge green. Hopefully the leader will have more than a one shot lead as he makes his way down the fairway.
And this is all topped off with the majestic clubhouse, inspired by the sails of a traditional Arab dhow.
