Golf Monthly is the market leading golfing magazine in the UK. It's a lively and welcoming read that is targeted at good golfers who are regular players - and keen to get even better.
With over 100 years of heritage and authority behind it, it represents the real 'voice of golf' with leading columnists, top players and unrivalled coverage of equipment and instruction.
The PGA Tour stays in Texas this weeks for the Valero Texas Open, which is played on the demanding 7,435 yard Greg Norman designed TPC San Antonio Oaks Course, which also had some input from Sergio Garcia.
It’s a tough track and any player who suffers from claustrophobia will not enjoy the tight narrow tree lined fairways here. If you miss the first and second cuts of rough you are in deep trouble, with thick knee-high native grass just off the second cut of the fairway.
Once a player has negotiated the tee shot then they have to aim at greens that are guarded by 12-foot deep bunkers. The greens are in near perfect condition and ample in size but they have plenty of movement in them, with lots of slopes, undulations, spines and ridges.

My tips to Win:
It has been a strange year for Ludvig Åberg 12/1 – BetFred– with a win and a missed cut at The Players Championship after opening the year with a fifth-place finish at The Sentry. With The Masters only a week away, Ludvig will want to go into that week full of confidence. And being it the thick of the battle here come Sunday afternoon, is what he will be looking for
Someone who seems to love teeing it up at the TPC San Antonio course is Corey Conners 16/1 – BetFred – who has won this event twice now. Corey comes into this week on the back of three straight Top 10 finishes and he also started the year with a Top 5 at The Sentry
Five PGA Tour starts this year and five Top 25 finishes for Tommy Fleetwood 16/1 – AKBets – so far. Tommy put this event in his schedule for the first time last year and had a seventh-place finish, and followed that up with a third-place finish at The Masters. I am sure he will be looking to improve on both of those finishes over the next two weeks
Each-way tips:
This week's defending champion is Akshay Bhatia 25/1 – BetFred – who comes into this week after his third-place finish at the Players Championship. He also has two other Top 10 finishes from his last four starts, and will want to put up a good defence of his title
A runner-up finish at the Houston Open should see Gary Woodland 55/1 – Bet365 – arrive in confident mood. Gary didn’t really get on with this event for a number of years and skipped it in his schedule, but after covid he has had two Top 10 finishes here. Gary started the year well with three Top 25 finishes from his first three starts and then missed the cut in his next three events, but I think he could do well this week
Outside tips:
It was the 2023 fall series that it seemed only a matter of time before Eric Cole 100/1 – BetVictor – would win his first PGA Tour title, when he had four Top 5 finishes in five starts. It has been a bit of a rollercoaster year so far for Eric, but back-to-back Top 15 finishes in his last two starts, just might hint that he is about to start challenging again and these could turn out to be very good odds.
