Golf Monthly is the market leading golfing magazine in the UK. It's a lively and welcoming read that is targeted at good golfers who are regular players - and keen to get even better.
With over 100 years of heritage and authority behind it, it represents the real 'voice of golf' with leading columnists, top players and unrivalled coverage of equipment and instruction.
Firstly, Happy New Year to all our readers I hope it’s a healthy year full of joy and laughter for you and your families and hopefully we see an end to the genocide in Palestine and those who have committed and aided in war crimes are brought to justice. The Tournament of Champions is the traditional New Year opener on the PGA Tour in Hawaii.
The Plantation course at Kapalua Resort on the island of Maui was designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore and again plays host to this week's event. It’s a top-quality field as you would expect with all the competitors having won on last year's PGA Tour.
KJ Choi who shot a 62 at the 2003 Mercedes-Benz Championship holds the course record on the Plantation course. The golf course features several fantastic ocean views with steep uphill climbs and downhill approaches which gives the opportunity for some dramatic TV coverage. One hole to watch out for is the par-5 finishing hole which is a downhill 663-yard par 5.

My tips to Win: Winning two major championships last year and with Scottie out the man to beat this week will be Xander Schauffele 7/1 – with SkyBet – who has a win here and defended his title with a runner-up finish and has had a couple of other Top 5 finishes since including last year
Someone who hasn’t won here but does have a runner-up finish is Collin Morikawa 12/1 – with SportingIndex – who hasn’t been outside the Top 7 in his five starts here and has two Top 5 finishes in that run
Another player that hasn’t won here but also has a runner-up finish is Hideki Matsuyama 20/1 – with Bet365 – who has two other Top 5 finishes from his seven starts
Each-way tips:
Playing in this event for only the second time is Byeong Hun An 40/1 – with UniBet – who had a Top 5 finish in his first start here last year. Byeong made it all the way to the Tour Championship last year with a runner-up and twelve Top 25 finishes five of which which were Top 10s and I expect him to get off to a quick start this year
A Top 15 finish a few weeks ago on the European Tour should see Max Homa 66/1 – with UniBet – quick out of the blocks this week. Max has played in this event four times now and has finished inside the Top 25 on each occasion, with two Top 15 finished and a third-place finish
Outside tip:
It seems it’s always a case of miss or hit with Nico Echavarria 125/1 – with UniBet – who played in this event for the first time last year and made the Top 25. Nico finished last year well with a win, runner-up and a sixth-place finishes in the Fall Series of events, but he also had three missed cuts. But, at these odds I think he is worth a punt
