Because of all the wild fires in Los Angeles this week's Genesis Invitational has been moved from the Riviera Country Club to the South Course at Torrey Pines, which is normally home to the Farmers Insurance Open.
The South course at Torrey Pines was designed by William F Bell and opened for play in 1957. Rees Jones was commissioned to undertake a redesign in 2001 so the course would be ready for the 2008 US Open Championship. Who could forget that dramatic Championship which ended with Tiger Woods beating Rocco Mediate on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff (after an 18 hole play off) and with a fractured bone in one leg.
Torrey Pines sits on the coastal cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean in La Jolla south of Torrey Pines State Reserve. Tight fairways, lush rough, pine trees, strategic bunkering and deep ravines are just some of the challenges ahead. Throw in the changing weather conditions, when fog, wind and rain come into play, they can often sweep in on this seaside layout. But you have a course that offers even the best golfers in the world a tough examination of their skills, both physically and mentally.
The complex takes its name from the indigenous Torrey Pine which is native to the area. The course is maintained by the City of San Diego and is open to the public and has enjoyed numerous awards, included amongst them is Golf Magazine's "Top 500 Holes in the World", 2000 (Par 4, 12th Hole) and Golf Digest Magazine's "America's 100 Greatest Public Access Golf Courses", 2005-2006.

My tips to Win:
In these events it is hard to split Rory and Scottie, but I am going with Rory McIlroy 8/1 – with UniBet – after his win at Pebble Beach and the boost of confidence that will give him coming into this event
The first time Collin Morikawa 16/1 – with BetVictor – teed it up at Torrey Pines he made the Top 25 and has since gone on to have a fourth-place finish at the US Open when it was held here in 2021 and a third-place finish at the Farmers Insurance Open, although he does have one missed cut from his four starts here
I am going to stick with Hideki Matsuyama 22/1 – with BetVictor – but as I said earlier in the year when I was tipping him for the Farmers Insurance Open, it is normally a bit hit or miss for Hideki at Torrey Pines. He has five Top 20 finishes including two Top 10s, from his twelve starts. Matsuyama is the defending champion of The Genesis Invitational and if he gets his putter working again, I feel he will be in the thick of it this weekend
Each-way tips:
Having only been outside the Top 15 once in his five starts this year and with a win already to his name Sepp Straka 50/1 – with UniBet – will be in confident mood teeing it up on the South Course this week. And will fancy his chance of winning his first elevated event
Someone who will have a lot of positive recent memories when he arrives back at Torrey Pines this week is Harris English 66/1 – with SpreadEx – who won this year's Farmers Insurance Open. Harris also has a runner-up finish here and two other Top 15s, he also had a third-place finish here when the US Open was played at Torrey Pines in 2021

We did tip Justin Rose 125/1 – with BetVictor – at the AT&T Pebble Beach ProAm when he was priced at 150/1 and he came in third-place. Justin has won the Farmers Insurance Open and has six other Top 25 finishes including three Top 10s from his fifteen starts, which includes several missed cuts including this years
