This week the DP World Tour moves to the UAE for the fourth edition of the Ras Al Khaimah Championship at the Al Hamra Golf Course, which hosted back-to-back events the first year the event was held, the other being The Ras Al Khaimah Classic.
Al Hamra Golf Club was the UAE's first 18-hole golf course and opened for play in 2007, designed by Peter Harradine it meanders around four interconnected open-water lagoons, which merge with the water of the Arabian Gulf.
Originally planned to be built on the salt flats bordering the waters edge, a staggering five million cubic meters of sand and soil were moved during course construction, this combined with expert shaping have created gentle elevation changes as the terrain moves around the lagoons.
There are five teeing options on each hole with water coming into play on several holes most notably on either side of the fairway at the 576-yard 3rd, and at the par five 18th, where water is present along the right of the hole, all the way from the tee to the triple-tiered green.

My tips to Win:
This week’s defending champion is Thorbjørn Olesen 12/1 – with UniBet – who had a Top 4 finish the year before. Surprisingly he missed the cut the first time he teed it up here in the inaugural event
Ryan Fox 22/1 – with BetVictor – didn’t play in this event last year, instead concentrating his time on the PGA Tour, but he did have a Top 15 finish the year before. Ryan played at the weekends Dubai Desert Classic and it was good to see him back on the European Tour, and his Top 10 finish there should give him a lot of confidence coming into this week
There was a lot of talk about Tom McKibbin 25/1 – with BetVictor – and his Liv Golf offer last week at the Dubai Desert Classic and he seemed to handle it well with his sixth-place finish. Tom has had a natural progression in this event, which gave him his first Top 20 finish here last year. But it is a different player that turns up here this week, and I expect him to be challenging come Sunday
Each-way tips:
Three starts so far this season for Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen 33/1 – with BetVictor – and two of them have been Top 10 finishes. His latest coming at the weekends Dubai Desert Classic where he shot a final round 66 to storm up the leaderboard
With four starts on this years European Tour and three Top 25 finishes including two Top 6 finishes Angel Ayora 45/1 – with SkyBet – I feel will start his first tournament of the year right in the thick of the battle come Sunday
Outside tip:
A gradual progression over his three starts in this event saw Richard Mansell 70/1 – with SpreadEx – make the Top 10 here last year, when he opened up with a 64. It has not been the start to this season that I am sure Richard was hoping for, but if he keeps this progression up, then these could turn out to be great odds for a Top 5 finish
