Royal Troon hosts the final major championship of the year, this will be the 152nd Open Championship and the tenth time Royal Troon will host the championship. Troon was awarded its “Royal” monika in 1979 – Troon remains the first and so far the last club in the United Kingdom to have been granted Royal status under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II – the courses centenary year.
The original design was a five-hole layout designed by then professional George Strath in 1878, the original layout was then extended and modified by Willie Fernie and James Braid. Troon held its first Open Championship in 1923, which was won by Englishman Arther Havers who beat American Walter Hagan by one shot.
The course is a traditional out and back links with the opening few holes running along the Firth of Clyde with views out to Ailsa Craig and the Isle of Arran. As well as battling the elements players will also have to plot their way around the many hidden bunkers from the tees and of course the deep rough and gorse. The way to play Royal Troon is to build your score on the front nine and defend on the way back, as this is the toughest nine holes and normally plays into a north-westerly wind.
The courses most famous hole is the 8th hole known as the “Postage Stamp” the name was conjured up by Willie Park when he referred to the hole in a Golf Illustrated feature when he stated “a pitching surface skimmed down to the size of a postage stamp”. In the 1973 Open championship Gene Sarazen holed in one at the hole, it was a poetic return for Sarazen, who had played in Troon’s inaugural Open in 1923.
Bernard Darwin wrote in his Golf Courses of the British Isles book, "The course at Troon is perhaps a little overshadowed by its more famous neighbour, but it is a very fine course nevertheless, especially since it has been lengthened of late years. It has, moreover, one of the finest short holes to be found anywhere."

My tips to Win:
Will it be redemption for Rory McIlroy 9/1 with AKBets this week after his agonising last few holes at the US Open? The only way Rory isnt in contention this week is if he has a bad weather draw, the question is will he get it over the line or not. I feel at some point he will, because he is always in contention come the final day
With three Major Championships already played Ludvig Εberg 14/1 with AKBets has a runner-up finish and a Top 15 from his three starts. Apart from those stats he has another runner-up finish and nine other Top 25 finishes from his fifteen starts, five of which were Top 10 finishes including his fourth-place finish at the Scottish Open at the weekend
The reigning PGA Champion Xander Schauffele 16/1 with AKBets has been playing some wonderful golf this year. Along with his PGA Championship victory he as two runner-up finishes one at The Players Championship and three other Top 5s and five other Top 10s and he I expect him to be in the thick of the battle yet again this week
Each-way tips:
It really does feel that it has been a bad year for Viktor Hovland 33/1 with AKBets but if you actually take a look at his record he has had four Top 25 finishes from his last six starts. Not staggering by his standards, but that just shows what standards he has set himself in his short career. In Major Championships Viktor has two missed cuts and a third-place finish at the PGA Championship. He has a good record at the Open Championship with three Top 15 finishes from his three starts including a fourth-place finish
Coming into this week on the back of seven Top 20 finishes from his last nine starts is Tony Finau 55/1 with AKBets who has a runner-up finish in that run. His last three starts have all been inside the Top 10 with his last two starts being Top 5 finishes. Tonys debut Open Championship appearance was at Royal Troon where he managed a Top 20 finish. He has since gone on to have three other Top 15 finishes including a Top 10 and Top 5, from his seven starts in the Championship.
Outside tip:
I have been tipping Aaron Rai 90/1 with SportingIndex for the last few weeks and the Englishman has five Top 20 finishes from his last five starts including a runner-up and two other Top 10 finishes in his last three starts which includes his fourth-place finish at the weekend, where he fired a final round 63 that helped him bag his Open Championship spot this week
