The PGA Tour now moves to the Motorcity and this will be the forth time that the Donald Ross designed Detroit Golf Club has hosted a professional tournament. The Rocket Mortgage Classic came into the schedule two year's ago and are the same sponsors of the Quicken Loans National, who are a Detroit based company and were looking to bring a tournament to their home city.
Located on the North side of Detroit, near Palmer Park and the University of Detroit Mercy, the course shares a border with 7 Mile on the North and started life as a 6-hole course designed by Bert Way then grow to a 9-hole and in 1913 additional property was purchased.
Donald Ross was asked to survey the property and he determined that two courses of 18 holes could be built on the land and in 1916 Albert Kahn was commissioned to design a new clubhouse, which was completed in 1918. Course architect Tom Doak has been brought in to oversee a renovation project of the two courses and re-establish the original Donald Ross design and bunkering.
The tournament will be primarily over the North course apart from the 3rd hole which is the only one of the South course holes being used and has a green that slopes dramatically from back to front. Like most Ross courses strategy is key with bunkers perfectly placed in the landing areas, with the greens being small, raised and heavily contoured.

My tips to Win:
It has taken a few weeks for Akshay Bhatia 22/1 with Bet365 to settle down after his win at the Texas Open but three Top 25 finishes in his last three starts, which includes tough tests at the Memorial Tournament and US Open. He followed those up with a Top 5 at the Travelers Championship at the weekend, which shows he is now ready to challenge again
It has been a great year on the PGA Tour for Stephan Jδeger 33/1 with BetFred bagging his first win at the Houston Open and following that up with four other Top 25 finishes. Stephan had two third-place finishes earlier in the season, so that win didnt really come as a total surprise. And with two Top 10 finishes from his three starts in this event, I feel he will be right in the thick of it again come Sunday
Each-way tips:
Four Top 25 finishes in his last six starts shows Aaron Rai 40/1 with BetVictor is finally finding his feet and some consistency on the PGA Tour. Aaron had a Top 10 finish here last year and I expect him to be challenging again this week
This weeks defending champion is Rickie Fowler 50/1 with UniBet who has had a stop/start
season so far. But Rickie comes into this week on the back of a Top 20 finish at the Travelers Championship and will want to put up a good defence of his title
Kicking off his first full season on the PGA Tour with a runner-up finish at the Farmers Open it looked like Nicolai Højgaard 66/1 with UniBet was going to replicate his European Tour form on US soil, but since then it has been mostly downhill with five missed cuts. Nicolai played in this event last year and had a Top 25 finish and if he has ambitions of becoming one of the top players on this tour, this is the type of event with this field that he needs to start winning
Outside tip:
With a win already in this event I am sure Cam Davis 75/1 with BetVictor will be looking forward to being back in the Motorcity this week. Cam has had two Top 20 finishes since winning this event and I think these are good odds with that recent record
