The European Tour stays in South Africa but moves to Johannesburg and the Glendowner Golf Club. The course was designed by Englishman Charles Hugh Alison and opened for play on the 7th March 1937 and will be 87 years old on the commencement of this year's tournament on Thursday.
The course has help many notable professional tournaments including the South African Open Championship from 2013 - 2018. The Glendower Golf Club prides itself as a "classic" course. The club has undergone improvements over the years and still maintains its status as one of South Africa's best 18-hole parkland courses.
Such was the standard of the work and layout that after only two years the club played host to its first major tournament, The Transvaal Open Championship, which was won by Bobby Locke in a World Record score of 265, Locke shooting rounds of 66, 69, 66 and 64.
In 1973 the club was proclaimed a Nature Reserve. This proclamation was in order to preserve the bird-life that is found on the course. Glendower GC under went major renovation works during the 1980s. All 18 greens were reshaped and rebuilt, new tee positions were added, and existing water hazards were cleared and extended with new water features added on a number of holes.
The course boasts beautiful kikuyu fairways with 64 bunkers, 27 on the front nine and 37 on the back nine and water hazards on 11 of the 18 holes. Theres a natural beauty to Glendower which has a river running through the property that provides a number of wonderful hazards.
It makes an early appearance on the left of the par-5, 2nd hole and becomes part of the hazard left of the short 3rd, skirts the front of the 7th green and then filters into a pond guarding the 10th hole. It then reappears when needing to be carried on the tee shot at 12th and flows into the pond left of the par-5 13th green. It is a testing course with accuracy being the key.

My tips to Win:
I am going to give Zander Lombard 20/1 with UniBet the benefit of the doubt and say last weeks missed cut was a one off. It was the first time that Zander has been outside the Top 25 so far this season and he has four Top 6s in that run including a runner-up
With five Top 25 finishes from his last five starts Tom McKibbin 20/1 with UniBet should arrive here in confident mood this week. Having said that only once has Tom made the Top 5 and really challenged and that was at the Qatar Masters. Having won his first event on the European Tour last year he will want to get that second victory under his belt asap and I feel, if it is going to happen it will be while his on this kind of run of form
A weeks rest should see Jesper Svensson 33/1 with Bet365 arrive feeling refreshed and ready to go again and I am sure with two runner-up finishes so far this season and two Top 20 finishes in his last two starts, his goal will be to win over the next few weeks starting here this week
Each-way tips
A winner this season over the Glendower course is Robin Williams 50/1 with UniBet who had a runner-up finish at the weekend in the SDC Championship and has not been outside the Top 11 in his last three stars on the Sunshine Tour. Robin also sits in second spot on the Sunshine Tours OOM with twelve Top 25 finishes
This weeks defending champion is Nick Bachem 80/1 with LiveScoreBet who comes into this week on the back of a Top 5 finish at the SDC Championship at the weekend, his first of the year and I am sure he will take a lot of confidence from that this week
Outside tip:
Another winner over the Glendower Course on the Sunshine tour is Daniel Van Tonder 100/1 with LiveScoreBet at the African Bank Sunshine Tour Championship. He also had a Top 15 this season at the Sunshine Tours Fortress Invitational which is also played here. Daniel comes into this week on the back of a Top 20 finish at last weeks SDC Championship
