The PGA Tour heads out to Japan and pitches up at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club which opened for play in 1965 and is roughly an hour away from downtown Tokyo. The course is a composite of the 36-holes at the resort, which is owned by the Accordia Golf Company that is part owned by Goldman Sachs Group Inc who have been buying up golf courses in Japan due to the country’s recession.
The course is tree lined with tight fairways and plenty of bunkers with water coming into play on the 4th 5th 6th 10th and 16th holes. One of the things you will notice on TV is that a lot of the holes have duel greens, I am presuming this is to preserve the main greens during the winter months, but it would be great fun if they used some of them on alternate days during the tournament – although I am not sure the pros would enjoy that!
The 562-yard par 5, 18th is a fitting finale to the course. The hole doglegs left and has bunkers left and right on the dogleg, but a good drive will carry the bunker on the left and give the players a chance to hit the green in two, but there are three large bunkers to navigate, before you arrive at a green that slopes back to front. My tips to Win:
No surprise going with Hideki Matsuyama 16/1 – with BetFred – who has had a win and a runner-up in this event and will want to do well again in front of his home fans
I think this could be a big season for Min Woo Lee 20/1 – with BetFred – on the PGA Tour and comes into this week on the back of two Top 15 finishes from his last three starts on the European Tour
The defending champion this week is Keegan Bradley 25/1 – with BetFred – and I am sure he is not only looking to defend his title, but will have a point to prove after not being given one of the Captain’s picks for the Ryder Cup after winning twice on the PGA Tour last season
Each-way tips:
Two Top 5 finishes from his last three starts and I have to admit I was surprised to see Eric Cole 30/1 – with Bet365 – at these odds and I expect him to be challenging again this week
Having improved in each event one of the fall series events culminating in at Top 10 finish at the weekends Shriners Children’s Open where he opened up with a round of 62, Beau Hossler 50/1 – with Bet365 – should arrive in Japan in confident mood
Outside tip:
Cameron Champ 80/1 – with LiveScoreBet – has teed it up twice in this event and has finished inside the Top 10 on both occasions. Cameron comes into this week on the back of two Top 20 finishes from his last two starts and fired a final round 65 at the weekends Shriners Children’s Open and I think these could turn out to be very good odds
