The PGA Tour now moves to the Motorcity and this will be the forth time that the Donald Ross designed Detroit Golf Club has hosted a professional tournament. The Rocket Mortgage Classic came into the schedule two year's ago and are the same sponsors of the Quicken Loans National, who are a Detroit based company and were looking to bring a tournament to their home city.

Located on the North side of Detroit, near Palmer Park and the University of Detroit Mercy, the course shares a border with 7 Mile on the North and started life as a 6-hole course designed by Bert Way then grow to a 9-hole and in 1913 additional property was purchased.

Donald Ross was asked to survey the property and he determined that two courses of 18 holes could be built on the land and in 1916 Albert Kahn was commissioned to design a new clubhouse, which was completed in 1918. Course architect Tom Doak has been brought in to oversee a renovation project of the two courses and re-establish the original Donald Ross design and bunkering.

The tournament will be primarily over the North course apart from the 3rd hole which is the only one of the South course holes being used and has a green that slopes dramatically from back to front. Like most Ross courses strategy is key with bunkers perfectly placed in the landing areas, with the greens being small, raised and heavily contoured.

My tips to Win:

This weeks defending champion is Tony Finau 141 with PaddyPower who has only had one Top 25 finish since his second win on this wraparound season. But I do expect him to put up a good defence of his title and start to show some of his early season form, which started to appear with his back-to-back 66s at the Travelers Championship at the weekend

It has been great to see Rickie Fowler 14/1 with LiveScoreBet back competing at the top of leaderboards again and his thirteenth-place finish at the Travelers Championship made it twelve Top 20 finishes from his last fourteen starts.

Another player that seems to be coming back into form is Hideki Matsuyama 20/1 with LiveScoreBet who notched up his sixth Top 20 finish from his last nine starts at the Travelers Championship at the weekend. Hideki has two Top 20 finishes here and I expect him to be in the thick of it come Sunday

Each-way tips

Another past champion of this event is Cam Davis 35/1 with BetVictor and defended his title last year with a Top 15 finish. Cam missed three cuts on the spin after his Top 5 finish at the PGA Championship, but seems to have gotten his game back on track with opening and closing rounds of 65 and 63 respectively at the Travelers Championship at the weekend and will have a lot of positive vibes when he arrives here this week.

I did tip Brian Harman 50/1 with LiveScoreBet last week and I will be sticking with him this week after his runner-up finish at the weekend. Brian has played in this event twice and missed the cut both times, similar to Cam Davis, but like Cam I expect him to be challenging this week.

Outside tips:

The inaugural winner of this event was Nate Lashley 100/1 with UniBet who promptly missed the cut the following two years! But Nate seems to do well in the smaller events on the PGA Tour although he did have a Top 20 at the Genesis, but a third place at the Puerto Rico Open and a recent Top 20 at the Canadian Open

Longer odds:

Try Matt Wallace 150/1 with UniBet

As always good luck
