The sun is setting as I arrive at the Evolutee hotel with its triple height ceiling, lightwood and deep red decor, large beautifully painted portraits and floor to ceiling windows that look out over Royal Obidos golf course to the sea, it really is one of those wow moments and I stand mesmorised by the beauty of the orange and blue sky as it floods into the reception.

The check-in staff were very helpful and I was soon taking the lift to the second floor. As I walk down the corridor with the rooms on one side and more floor to ceiling glass - again encapsulating that view I am already impressed by - and when I opened the door to my room it was hardly a surprise that it lived up to the high standards the entrance had already set.

From being able to dock my I-phone to the glass and white finish of the decor, with a wonderful painting taking up one of the walls that turns out to be the wardrobe, safe and mini bar, it seems every detail has been thought through.

After a few drinks in the bar – well quite a few really – which continued the theme of deep reds and lightwood, but this time with lined wallpaper, I am off to bed, I am looking forward to exploring tomorrow.

As I walk into the bathroom I am stopped in my tracks by the beautiful sunrise burning off the morning mist that has settled, and while it isn't a see view from the floor to ceiling windows, the mist on the hills blends in with that early morning sun making the start to the day all that more special.

I perch myself opposite the long thin swimming pool in the breakfast room which looks back out to sea - the breakfast room becomes a restaurant in the evening - and I have my choice from a full English to fresh fruit and continental meats and cheeses.

Unfortunately I didn't get time to sample the Elemental Spa, I would have loved to have indulged myself with a treatment or two, maybe next time, but if you do want to visit the spa here it also contains a thermal area for the ultimate in rest and relaxation. There is also a heated indoor pool, Finnish sauna and steam room too, all at your disposal. There are a vast number of treatments that you must try at least one, from the signature treatments to holistic massages and therapeutic massages to baths and body scrubs. An important side note is that in order to enjoy the spa you need to make a reservation at least 48 hours in advance and it is advised that you check in 20 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

But if you fancy more than just some spa treatments the Elemental spa also offers both pilates and yoga classes and a personal trainer. But if you want to work out on your own there is also a gym available to work off all the excess from the bar AND the very large breakfast that I polished off, but if they are up to the standards of the rest of the hotel you will be in for a real treat.
