For those of us who have a slight golf addiction, winter is certainly not a deterrent – although I do draw the line at rain and cold!
But as they say in Minnesota "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes” so I have put together – and tested over the last month – the ultimate winter golf outfit.
The most important layer:
The base layer is for me the most important layer as this keeps your body heat close to your skin, but you need something that is also breathable and wickers away any sweat. The Abacus compression top and bottoms enhances performance by putting pressure on the veins which enlarges them and lets the blood circulate quicker which in turn warms your muscles faster.

Trousers:
The Abacus Links trousers in combination with the compression bottoms kept me so warm I thought I may need suntan protection! I love the brushed tricot lining which does a great job in keeping you warm. The Links trousers are also waterproof, breathable, have sealed seams, an elastic waist at the back for a tighter fit and have two front and two back pockets.

Tops:
On top of the compression base layer is the Hammel Polo, which is made of a soft and stretchy material that has DryCool and breathable functions. Followed by the Dunbar half zip fleece which inside has brushed fleece that keeps you warm, this is also made from a soft stretchy fabric, that has DryCool and wickering properties.
If you wanted to add an addition thin layer or to replace the polo with something that has long sleeves than go for the Tenby Long Sleeve as this is made from a lightweight, stretchable fabric, highly breathable, which also has wickering and DryCool properties.
The next layer is the Elgin hybrid vest, I prefer these to a full jacket as I can swing more freely. The Elgin hybrid has a seamless quilted windproof fabric, which is padded in the front and back. The side panels and shoulders are made of a stretch fleece, which also appears inside and with the square pattern design helping air circulation, keeping that heat in and your muscles loose. An elastic binding at the armhole also helps keep the wind out.

Golf Shoes:
Or should I say boots, I loved testing the Duca del Cosma Bologna golf boot not only do they look great, but they also do an amazing job of keeping your feet warm and dry. I was worried about not having soft spikes, but over the last month I have not slipped once, and it has been pretty wet and muddy recently and the Quick lacing system is brilliant.

Accessories:
The Gullane warm mitten are the best golf mittens that I have tested so far. They keep your hands nice and warm, are easy to get on and off with your golf gloves on. These are a must have for every winter golfer.
Yes, we will at some point be trapped in the rain/snow, click here for my Pitch 37.5 rain wear review, but having the Links rain hat which is waterproof, breathable with a wide brim and a drawstring at the back, so you can adjust the fit is the perfect hat to have tucked in your bag.
And last, but not least, your umbrella and the Abacus Square umbrella is storm proof, lightweight, has a foam anti-glide handle and comes with a quick dry fabric.
