As I unwrap Rife’s Duke new heel/toe weighted blade I have to say I am slightly taken aback by how nice the black finish looks. With its orange trim it certainly looks like a putter to inspire confidence when you get to the dance floor. One of the things that I also notice as I take a few practice swings on my putting matt at home is how light the putter feels – something I’d soon discover would be the perfect tool on Florida’s fast greens.

Technology:

Rife’s 2014 range of putters use a patented “Roll Groove Technology” which helps to get the ball rolling with top-spin as quickly as possible on the line you’ve chosen. It uses a precisely-spaced milled groove that helps in allowing the ball to compress into the face, which works with the decreased loft – all helping to reduce ball-skid time after impact.

The Duke uses a perimeter weighting heel/toe design with a gooseneck hosel and half-shaft offset. The black PVC finish not only looks good but is great in absorbing the Florida sun so cutting out any unwanted glints of light hitting your eyes in the middle of your putting stroke.

Conclusion:

If you like a traditional heel/toe weighted putter – one that not only feels easy to swing but also gets the ball rolling as quickly as possible – I suggest you give the Rife Duke a test. I enjoyed playing with this beautifully designed wand over nine courses in Florida and it never let me down. No matter how fast or slow the greens and the different types of grasses with which I was presented, I always felt confident with the Rife Duke.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I holed everything from six feet or I would be competing in the Open Championship! But when I put the ball on the right line the Duke produced a solid roll for me with great feel. And with its great looks that can only help to inspire confidence, I would have no hesitation in recommending you put this baby on your testing list when buying your next putter.
