Golf Equipment test and review: Callaway Mavrik Driver, Face and Jailbreak technology illustration

This is the second generation of Callaways AI technology drivers, there are three models in the Mavrik range, the Standard, Sub Zero and Max, but all utilise the main technologies.

Technology:

As you can imagine computer learning is a non-stop process because the computer will keep on refining it’s at what point the R&D guys decide that there has been enough improvement on the last generation that would show improvements in distance, forgiveness, consistency and feel.

Callaway have used a new supercomputer for the MAVRIK driver and state they have seen wider-ranging performance improvements in the face and throughout the clubhead, first is the new Flash Face SS20 architecture that is a thinner design and has a more expansive area helping deliver “ultra-fast ball speeds”. Because of the design of the new SS20 face Callaway turned to a new stronger, lighter high-end FS2S Titanium material. As you can imagine how many times a driver is used this new material is designed to improve ball speeds at impact while keeping its integrity throughout the club’s life span.

MAVRIK also uses Callaway’s tried and tested Jailbreak technology that uses two internal bars behind the face that connect the sole and crown to promote faster ball speed and the T2C triaxial carbon crown which is lighter than a titanium crown, allowing the R&D guys to redistribute the weight saved from the crown and the 6gms from the FS2S Titanium face to raise MOI and forgiveness.

With the help of the new supercomputer the AI technology has also helped Callaway improve the sound at impact optimize the internal titanium rib system that has fine-tuned the head to produce a deeper sound

There is also a new Cyclone Aero shape, which is shallower from front to back, with a flatter crown, and a sole design that sweeps upward dramatically in the rear to create a higher trailing edge, this helps decrease drag as the club moves along its path and helps increase clubhead speed. The drivers internal and external weighting includes a single, fixed 5g weight positioned at the sole’s back-center, to promote mid-level spin and a moderate draw bias.

Available in 9°, 10.5° and 12° lofts.
