I am always wary of testing golf shoes, mainly because whenever Iím about to go on a test trip I take them straight out of the box, throw them in my golf travel bag and put them on about five minutes before I hit the practice ground just prior to my first round. And the reason why I worry so much is that I have no back-up shoes, so if the ones I am testing pull lumps of skin off my heel, I still have to go through the same pain again the next day.

Thankfully, this wasnít the case with the new Adizero one golf shoe. Not only can you use this shoe straight from the box, it is also lighter than the first version of the Adizero. Believe me, this is the lightest golf shoe I have ever tested. And you donít lose any stability or traction Ė in fact, the guys at Adidas have built in even more stability into this updated version.

There has been a lot of negative press, with some clubs even banning the Adizero one, but I think a lot of that is down to how wet some courses have been, particularly since most of the country is still recovering from being under water during the recent storms. I tested this pair on the Costa Brava, where the weather hasnít been so harsh, and they were perfect. I think that when the summer is here and the ground has dried out, the Adizero will be fine.

The new version of the Adizero golf shoe is ten per cent lighter than the first, coming in at less than ten ounces. The R&D guys at Adidas have created a one-piece fused upper that bonds together five different layers, and this is where that glove-like feel comes from.

The ultra-light Sprintskin+ upper with Climaproof protection is paired with a re-engineered Sprintframe outsole. An external Sprintweb TPU layer provides the stability you will need during the lateral movement of your swing. And the Swing Plane Traction technology, featuring CenTraXion, plus the new seven-spike design, help keep your feet from slipping during your swing.

I loved the original Adizero, and with the new improvements the shoes are now even better. They look and feel great, and being able to wear them straight out of the box without having to endure blisters is a major bonus. If like me you play a lot of golf on consecutive days, the lightness of the shoe really does come into its own, and you certainly feel the benefits of that after three or four days on a golf tour Ė not to mention on the scales. Add in the great styling and colours that Adidas offers, well, really, whatís not to like?
