| This week sees the tour move to the mainland island of Hawaii, Oahu and tees up at the Waialae Country Club. The course nestles between the Koolau mountain range on the north and Pacific Ocean on the south.
Opened in 1927 and designed by Seth Raynor, the Waialae Country Club has hosted major golfing events since 1965 and has been the venue for the annual Hawaiian PGA tournament.
Tailored greens, lush fairways, beautiful mountain ranges, the blue ocean, these are some of the fantastic views the course has to offer the visiting golfer.
The pros on the other hand will be playing the course in a different way as the front and back nines are reversed for Tournament play in order to capitalise on the sun setting in the west.

My tips to Win:
So far on this season’s wraparound tour Webb Simpson 14/1 – with WilliamHill – has only been outside the Top 20 once in his six starts and his record in the Sony Open is six Top 15 finishes from ten starts which includes two Top 5 finishes. Some players hit the ground running last week, but while Webb was under par each day he didn’t really challenge but I expect that to change this week.
Unlike Simpson last week Daniel Berger 20/1 – with WilliamHill – was right in the thick of it going into the Sunday, but his final round 72 see him slide down the leaderboard six places. Daniel has played in this event five times and has two Top 15 finishes. Berger has played some great golf since the restart last year winning the Charles Schwab, a runner-up at the WGC FedEx St Jude and two third place finishes and I think he will be in the thick of it again this week.
I am going to stick with Cameron Smith 28/1 – with UniBet – this week and he’s also the defending champion. Cameron played some solid golf at the Tournament of Champions and his third round 66 certainly gave him a chance to challenge on the final day, but like Berger shot a final round 72. Cameron has five starts in this event and three of those have been inside the Top 25 and I feel he will put up a good defence of his title this week.
Each-way tips:
I am also going to stick with Kevin Kisner 30/1 – with BetFred – who should come into this week with plenty of confidence after his final round 68 in very tricky windy conditions at the Tournament of Champions at the weekend. Kevin didn’t get off to the greatest of starts in the Sony Open missing the cut three times in his first four starts, but has since then he has had three Top 5 finishes including last year.
As you can see most of my picks played at the Tournament of Champions last week and next up is Lanto Griffin 45/1 – BetFair – who also played and had a Top 15 finish firing a final round of 67 in those windy conditions. I do feel playing competitive golf and knocking the rust off gives those players who competed last week an advantage over the field and Lanto also had a Top 10 finish here last year.
Outside tip:
The next two players didn’t compete last week and first up is Tom Hoge 110/1 – with VBet – who finished the year with a third-place finish at the Mayakoba Golf Classic and has a couple of Top 15 finishes in this event including a third-place finish.
Longer odds:
Try Peter Malnati 175/1 – with BetFred
As always good luck
