| Firstly, Happy New Year to all our readers I hope it’s a healthy year full of laughter for you and your families. The Tournament of Champions is the traditional New Year opener on the PGA Tour in Hawaii.
The Plantation course at Kapalua Resort on the island of Maui was designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore and again plays host to this week's event. It’s a top-quality field as you would expect with all the competitors having won on last year's PGA Tour.
KJ Choi who shot a 62 at the 2003 Mercedes-Benz Championship holds the course record on the Plantation course. The golf course features several fantastic ocean views with steep uphill climbs and downhill approaches which gives the opportunity for some dramatic TV coverage. One hole to watch out for is the par-5 finishing hole which is a downhill 663-yard par 5.

My tips to Win:
No surprise that my first two picks are half a point out from being made joint favourites and first up is Dustin Johnson 6/1 – with UniBet – who has won this event twice and is the reigning FedEx and Masters Champion and will want to get the year off to a winning start.
Like Dustin, Justin Thomas 15/2 – with 888Sport – is also a two times winner of this event and will be the defending champion this week. Justin won twice on the PGA Tour last year and was runner-up at the Tour Championship and had Top 10 finishes at the US Open and The Masters. Don’t be surprised if this becomes a tournament within a tournament and Dustin and Justin breakaway from the pack quickly and it becomes a head-to-head battle.
Each-way tips:
I think many of you know how impressed I am with Cameron Smith 40/1 – with UniBet – golf game and I think he could be the next big Australian player on the PGA Tour. Cameron showed a lot of his qualities at the Masters while taking the runner-up spot. Cameron won in Hawaii last year and will be the defending champion next week at the Sony Open and has played in this event once before making the Top 20.
In his last tournament of the year Kevin Kisner 66/1 – with BetFair – took the runner-up spot at the RSM Classic, he also had back-to-back Top 5 finishes during at the Wyndham Championship and then the FedEx Cup play-off at The Northern Trust. Kevin has not been outside the Top 20 in his three starts at this event and I think he’s a good each-way bet at these odds.
Longer odds:
Try Martin Laird 200/1 – with UniBet
As always good luck
