| The tour now moves to Greensboro, North Carolina and the last event of the rescheduled regular tour events before starting the Tour Championship play-off tournaments.
I am sure we will be in for some exciting golf again this weekend, especially for the guys on the bubble trying to make the FedEx Cup play-offs and Sedgefield CC couldn’t be a better course to be playing this event on.
Donald Ross originally designed Sedgefield Country Club back in 1926 the track was redesigned by Kris Spence in 2007, the restoration project took 10 months to complete at a cost of $3 million which transformed the course back to how Donald Ross envisaged the course to play.
Now measuring 7,130-yards and a par 70, the course doesn’t play that long from the tees but emphasis is on strategy and being in the right section of these rolling fairways. The small greens are very undulating and slope from back to front, with many falling off the edges into collection areas. The layout has a reputation for low scoring, which should make for an exciting tournament this week
My tips to Win:
The obvious favourite here this week is Webb Simpson 12/1 – with WilliamHill – who has a win and two runner-up finishes and five other Top 10s three of which are Top 5 finishes so to say the course suites his eye would be an understatement.
I think it showed this week that the weight on Hideki Matsuyama’s 14/1 – with 10Bet – has been lifted, the adoration of a nation after his Masters win and the Tokyo Olympics must have been a lot to carry and he certainly done that well, but see that smile back in the WGC St Jude Invitational play-off was telling and I think that he is now back playing for himself will not only free up his mind, but also his golf swing.
At the present time this will be Wil Zalatoris 28/1 – with SportNation – last competitive tournament of this season unless he wins here this week. Wil is on a PGA Tour exemption which prohibits him playing in the FedEx Cup play-offs and unless he wins this week which would allow him into the play-offs that will be it until the wraparound season starts again in Mid September, so I am sure he will be going all out for that win this week.
Each-way tips:
Another past champion of this event is Si Woo Kim 40/1 – with SportingIndex – who now holds the record for the most shots on a par 3, racking up thirteen of them at the 11th at TPC Southwind on Sunday in the final round, it also said a lot about Si Woo that he birdied the next hole. In his five starts at Sedgefield Country Club Kim has had that win and two other Top 5s and I think these are good odds for the lad from Seoul.
Kevin Na 45/1 – with SportingBet – really didn’t get on with the Wyndham Championship for a long time missing several cuts, in fact when he finally notched up a Top 20 finish in 2010 he didn’t play in the event again until 2016 when he had a Top 10 finish and followed that up with a fourth-place finish in 2017 which was the last time he played here. Kevin comes into this week after his runner-up finish at the John Deere and a Top 25 last week at the WGC event.
Outside tip:
The third past champion I am tipping this week is JT Poston 80/1 – with MansionBet – who’s not had a very good mid-season, but had a runner-up a couple of weeks ago at the Barbasol Championship and followed that up by just missing out on a Top 25 finish at the 3M Open and I think coming back here with a bit more confidence in his golf game and these odds could be a very good match.
Longer odds:
Try Byeong Hun An 200/1 – with UniBet
As always good luck
