This will be the third WGC event of this year, with the final one to come in October at the WGC HSBC Champions in China

Ron Prichard designed TPC Southwind, which opened as a private members golf club in March 1988. Prichard enlisted the advice of PGA tour players Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller to turn 240 acres of countryside into this stunning track.

The natural lakes and streams are the foundation on which this course has been designed and there are two-grain silos and a windmill that stand as a reminder of the dairy farm that once frequented this site.

One of the course’s signature holes is the par 3 11th hole which is similar to the 17th at TPC Sawgrass where players take aim at an island green 165-yards away. The course record is 61, jointly held by Jay Delsing and Bob Estes.

My tips to Win:

I am sure Collin Morikawa 14/1 – with WilliamHill – will be disappointed after just missing out on the Olympic bronze medal in the play-off after putting together a final round 63 and making it through the first 3 holes of the play-off, but I am sure that will soon be put to one side especially with a WGC event when there is no cut and you can ease your way into the tournament.

I did tip Jordan Spieth 16/1 – with UniBet – at The Open Championship and he certainly put up a great fight on the final couple of days and with that I think we can safely say that he is now back to his best and his confidence will just grow each time he is in contention, which is where I expect him to be this week.

Another player that missed out in the play-off for the Olympic Bronze medal was Rory McIlroy 20/1 – with UniBet – but what I did like was that the players are starting to realise what it means to have an Olympic golf medal on your CV before you retire. Rory shot a third round 62 over the TPC Southwind course the first year this event moved here and with his swing changes starting to take I think we will see McIlroy start to challenge more over the coming months.

Each-way tips

The WGC St Jude has now been played over the TPC Southwind course twice and both times Matt Fitzpatrick 35/1 – with PaddyPower – has made the Top 6 so I think it is safe to say the course suits the Yorkshireman’s eye. It has been an up and down season on the PGA Tour for Matt but he does have five Top 10 finishes this year including two Top 5s and if he is going to win out here then this is the type of event I can see him winning first.

Another disappointed Olympian will be Cameron Smith 40/1 – with BetWay – who missed that 7-man play-off by one shot after firing two 66s in his last two rounds. I don’t think it is going to be too long before Smith wins one of the bigger events on tour and he certainly has the length and short game to do well and if he gets off to a good start like he did with his 65 the first year the event was held here, then this could be the starts of him becoming one of the players dominating the top of leaderboards each week.

Outside tips:

After winning his third PGA Tour title, I think Cameron Champ 100/1 – with UniBet – will start to realise he has the game to compete against the best name in the game and not just in the smaller events. Cameron comes into this week with his game in great shape and with the WGCs no cut he could be another breakthrough week for the Californian.

As always good luck
