| The PGA Tour makes its way to Texas for the Valero Texas Open, which is played on the demanding 7,435 yard Greg Norman designed TPC San Antonio AT&T Oaks Course, which had some input from Sergio Garcia.
It’s a tough track and any player who suffers from claustrophobia will not enjoy the tight narrow tree lined fairways here. If you miss the first and second cuts of rough you are in deep trouble, with thick knee-high native grass just off the second cut of the fairway.
Once a player has negotiated the tee shot then they have to aim at greens that are guarded by 12-foot deep bunkers. The greens are in near perfect condition and ample in size but they have plenty of movement in them, with lots of slopes, undulations, spines and ridges.

My tips to Win:
Local hero Jordan Spieth 16/1 with UniBet would love to add his home states Open to his distinguished roll of victories, but I think the scheduling over the years being right next to The Masters has meant he has not competed every year. Having said that Jordan does have two Top 10 finishes here including a runner-up from his five starts and in his current form having five Top 15 finishes from his last six starts four of which have been Top 5 finishes, this could finally be the year he wins his states Open.
The first time Tony Finau 18/1 with WilliamHill teed it up here he shot a second round 65 on the way to a third-place finish, strangely enough he didnt come back to compete the following year, but he has played in one more event making the cut for a -2 finish. Its well documented that Tony has only won once on tour and back-to-back runner-up finishes and two other Top 5 finishes just shows how well he is playing and with this field he certainly stands a very good chance of picking up the winners cheque come Sunday evening.
A past winner of this event who also has two runner-up finishes is Charley Hoffman 35/1 with UniBet he also has seven other Top 15 finishes here including a third-place, so I think its safe to say Charley loves teeing it up at TPC San Antonio. I did tip Hoffman at last weeks Corales Puntacana Championship and while he started well his final round 77 seem him crash out of the Top 10, but I think his record here speaks for its self.
Each way tips:
I did tip Chris Kirk 45/1 with UniBet a few weeks ago at The Players Championship, but he crashed and burned after leading the tournament going into the third round, dropping down the leaderboard 40 spots firing final rounds of 71, 79. But to be fair to Chris he has been making his way back after he took a six-month leave of absence last year to deal with personal issues. Chris has had three Top 15 finishes here including two inside the Top 10 and although he did miss the cut at the weekend at the Corales Puntacana Championship I expect him to challenge here this week.
With back-to-back wins in this event I am sure Zach Johnson 55/1 with SportingIndex will be looking forward to teeing it up at TPC San Antonio this week, Zach has three other Top 20 finishes here including a Top 5. Johnson has been playing some solid golf all season with three Top 10 finishes from his twelve starts including an eighth-place finish in his last event the Honda Classic, so he should come into this week in confident mood.
Outside tip:
A past winner of this event is Kevin Chappell 125/1 with BetFred who also has a runner-up and Top 5 finish here so hes another player that enjoys the TPC San Antonio track. Kevin has had a slow start to this wraparound season but he seemed to have found something at The Honda Classic where he opened with a 66 and closed with a 65. So Chappell should come into this week not only looking forward to being back in Texas, but in the knowledge that hes golf game is in good shape.
Longer odds:
Try Rafael Campos 150/1 with BetFred
As always good luck
