The European Tour is back this week and pitches up in Denmark and after a years absence for the 2018 tournament, this years event is back at the HimmerLand Farsø and the Backtee course. This will be the fifth time the re-constructed Backtee Course – which opened in April 2013 following extensive renovations – will have hosted the Made In Denmark/HimmerLand tournament.

Designed by Philip Spogárd and constructed by David Nelson, with Per Gundtoft as an advisory consultant, the course is situated in a beautiful part of the country and is located 20 kilometres to the west of Alborg, Europe’s cleanest city.

The course offers some stunning views, but with its wide fairways, it’s a course that is very easy on the eye. The professionals shouldn’t be fooled by its wide open spaces, if you want to score well round this track you need to be in the right part of the fairways to attack the flags.

My tips to Win:

With his mind elsewhere over the last year or so with his court case, injury and COVID virus it was always going to take a while for Thorbjørn Olesen 33/1 — with UniBet — to get his mind back in the game, but two Top 15 finishes from his last three starts shows that the Dane is getting there. How much pressure will be on him is hard to say especially with the court case being moved to December 2021, but having a child seems to have given him a new perspective and a win here wouldn’t be a surprise in his current form.

I did tip Calum Hill 33/1 — with UniBet — at the BetFred British Masters, but a final round 71 see him slide out of the runner-up spot and down six places to eighth for his fourth Top 10 finish this year from nine starts. Calum has won three Challenge Tour events one of which was the Made in Demark Challenge event so he will have a lot of positive memories being back in Denmark and winning this would make a unique double.

Since his win at the Magical Kenya Open Justin Harding 33/1 — with BetFred — has been in great form and has only been outside the Top 20 twice in his last six starts. Justin is still waiting for his first win on European soil but he does have seven wins on the Sunshine Tour and two Asian Tour wins to go with his two European Tour wins but both those wins have not been on mainland Europe and he will be looking to put that stat to bed this season.

Each-way tips:

I was surprised to see Mikko Korhonen 70/1 — with BetVictor — this far down the betting odds after his third-place finish at the BetFred British Masters. It was the first time Mikko had been inside the Top 15 since the beginning of the year at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, but I feel that will be the confidence boost the Fin needed to go on and challenge here this week.

All the talk maybe about his twin brother but Nicolai Højgaard 80/1 — with UniBet — has been playing some great golf lately with three Top 15 finishes from his last four starts that includes two Top 10 one of which was his fourth-place finish at the Canary Islands Championship. Nicolai produced a stunning final round 68 in challenging conditions at the 2019 KLM Open losing out by a shot to Sergio Garcia and just missing out on his first European Tour victory, maybe he can put that right this week.

Outside tip:

Putting himself on the radar recently is Richard Mansell 125/1 — with BetWay — who was in a great position going into the final round of the Canary Island Championship after firing rounds of 65, 66 and 64 only to fire a level par final round 72, which see him drop out of the runner-up spot but still making the Top 10. After a couple of runner-up finishes last year and a win at the Cobra Puma Championship this is Richards first full year on the main European Tour and I think he is worth a 50p each-way punt at these odds.

Longer odds:

There are some great options in this category from David Horsey 150/1 — with UniBet — and Lucas Bjerregaard 400/1 — with SportingBet — but how about Thomas Bjørn 1000/1 — with SportingIndex — playing in his home event after his solid performance at The Belfry

As always good luck
