| With no fans being allowed at PGA European and LPGA Tour events we are getting to see some wonderful courses that couldn’t hold tour events due to logistics of moving thousands of fans in and out of the event site. This week is no exception with the Tour moving to Bermuda and the Port Royal Golf Club, which has held the 2009 Grand Slam of Golf, it was also used last year for the inaugural Bermuda Championship that run on the same dates as the WGC HSBC Champions event.
Port Royal is probably the most popular course on the island and considered to be one of the best municipal golf courses in the world. The course was design by Robert Trent Jones and opened for play in 1970 and is routed over high ground with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. The course recently underwent a $14.5 million redesign overseen by Roger Rulewich who was part of Jones’s original design team.
Those amazing Atlantic Ocean views have now been opened up with the course utilising palms and Bermudian cedars, creating a more natural open environment. New lakes have been added and the redesigned greens now use TifEagle grass for a faster, more consistent roll, the bunkers have also under gone some reshaping to be consistent with the contours of the land and the yardage has been increased to 6,842yds.
Port Royal features some of Bermuda's most picturesque and dramatic holes, highlighted by the stunning signature hole the par 3, 16th. The hole is played from a tee on one side of a cliff edge, to a green that is perched on a peninsula on the other of a chasm and at 235 yards, it’s all carry and can be anything from a mid-iron to a driver depending on the wind, and will no doubt feature prominently on our TVs this week.

My tips to Win:
Tipped by many US pundits to be one of Americans next top players Will Zalatoris 11/1 – with SportingBet – Zalatoris dominated the Korn Ferry Tour during his second season with ten Top 10 finishes from his sixteen starts which included his win at the TPC Colorado Championship. Since moving onto the PGA Tour this year he has had three Top 10 finishes from his four starts including a sixth-place finish at the US Open and a Top 5 in his last outing at the Shriners Children’s Hospitals Open.
He may have missed the cut in his last outing but Doc Redman 28/1 – with Ladbrokes – did start the new wraparound season with a third-place finish at the Safeway Open and had a solid finish at the Sanderson Farms Open. 2019 see Doc make six appearances on the PGA Tour and he made the most of that with a runner-up finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and he also made the first round of the FedEx Cup play-offs earlier this year.
Each-way tips:
Rasmus Højgaard 40/1 – with SportingBet – has been having a great season on the European Tour since the restart having won his first tournament and had a runner-up and third and sixth place finishes and while he may have crashed out of the US Open, he certainly has the game to do well on the PGA Tour and there are not too many better players in the field this week.
Last years wraparound season was Maverick McNealy 50/1 – with Ladbrokes – first on the PGA Tour and he was only one of eight players to make the FedEx Cup in the new crop of players to join the tour last year and only one of four who made it to the BMW Championship, Maverick made seventeen cuts from his twenty-three starts. McNealy may have missed two cuts from his three starts on the new wraparound season, but the lad has talent and, in this field these could prove to be very good odds.
This will be Sepp Straka 55/1 – with SportingBet – third year on the PGA Tour and he is the type of player that will miss four cuts on the spin and then take fourth place and then miss another three cuts then take fourth place again, which is was happened at the beginning of last years wraparound season. Sepp has started this wraparound season a bit better with only the one missed cut be he is certainly due another Top 5 finish and with this field I have a feeling it could be this week.
Outside tip:
I did tip Anirban Lahiri 90/1 – with Ladbrokes – as an outside bet for the Sanderson Farms Open and he opened up with a 66, but it was his third round 77 that took him out of getting into the placings and although his final round 69 see him move back up the leaderboard the damage had already been done. There have been glimpses of some great golf from Lahiri and if he can eliminate that one bad round he could do more than just make the placings this week.
Longer odds:
Try Lucas Bjerregaard 250/1 – SportingBet
As always good luck
