This week sees the new wraparound season moves to The Country Club of Jackson that came into to being in 1914, when a small group of businessmen purchased 100 acres off of Clinton Boulevard, five miles west of Jackson, this gave birth to The Country Cub of Jackson. At that time the Club was so far out of town that a local old gentleman, provided transport for people who did not have cars.

The original clubhouse was a large, old house on the property, which burnt down in 1936 and was replaced by an attractive, framed building and contained a large all-purpose room, ballrooms, small bar and a ladies locker room in the attic. Tragedy struck again with a fire that destroyed the clubhouse.

A brick, fireproof building, was built impressively decorated by Marshall Field of Chicago. The present property was purchased in the late fifties. Through the past 100 years, the Club has grown through a series of renovations and expansions to become what it is today

My tips to Win:

Last year was Scottie Scheffler 11/1 – with UniBet – first season on the PGA Tour and he certainly started off with a bang with three Top 5 finishes and three other Top 20s from his first eight starts, he then lost he way a little missed five cuts although he did comeback and finish the season well with three other Top 5 finishes including a fifth place at the Tour Championship. Unfortunately, Scottie tested positive for COVID so had to pull out of the US Open and this will be his first tournament of the new wraparound season and he will be looking to get off to a quick start this week.

Is there any player that loves competing more than Sung Jae Im 16/1 – with SportingBet – I was actually surprised that he took a week off after his Top 25 finish at the US Open and didn’t tee it up at Corales last week. Sung Jae had a runner-up finish here last year and with him finally getting his win at the Honda Classic earlier this year before lockdown, I expect him to win at least once more before the year is out and he will be right in the thick of it again this weekend.

Each-way tips:

Coming into this week on the back of two Top 25 finishes from two starts on the new wraparound season is Sam Burns 33/1 – with Ladbrokes – who had a third-place finish here in 2018, which was the second time he had teed it up in this event. Sam finished well last week in Punta Cana with a final round 66 that see him move up the leaderboard thirty-seven places and he should be full of confidence coming back to an event he has played well in before.

I must admit I never understand a player doing well in an event and not competing in it again the following year, but Luke List 50/1 – with UniBet – had a runner-up finish here in 2016 and didn’t bother turning up to play here for the next two years then missed the cut in 2019 – probably due to embarrassment! Having said that a Top 10 finish at Corales at the weekend should see him arrive in buoyant mood and looking to challenge again this week.

This will be the first time that Sergio Garcia 66/1 – with UniBet – has played in this event and I have to say its slightly sad to see him this far down the betting odds, but it is a true reflection of his game at the moment after missing the cut at both the Safeway and US Opens. We all know what a great player Sergio is and he will certainly be looking at making the Ryder Cup team for next year so with that in mind and this field and at these odds, how can I not tip him this week.

Outside tip:

Chris Kirk 150/1 – with SportingBet – is not only a past champion of this event but he also has a runner-up finish and two other Top 10s from his six starts here. Chris has had a quiet return since the tour restarted with his best result being a Top 25 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic from his five starts but he did have a win on the Korn Ferry Tour, but missed the cut at last week’s Corales Puntacana Championship. I am sure he will be looking to get back on track this week on a course that obviously suits his eye.

Longer odds:

Try Anirban Lahiri 175/1 – with SpreadEx

As always good luck
