Well we finally made it to the DP World Tour Championship, it has been some year and hats off to Keith Pelley and his team at the European Tour for making it all happen and getting us here to say it’s been a herculean effort would be an understatement.

This was the first Greg Norman designed track in Dubai along with sister course Fire at the Jumeirah Golf Estates which the Golf in Dubai Championship was played on last week. The Earth course is a very open layout with generous fairways and large sloping greens, so position is all-important.

Talk about bringing coals to Newcastle, or Sand to Dubai, which is exactly what has happened here. The bleached white sand in the fairway waste areas and bunkers was imported from North Carolina. There really isn’t too much rough to worry about, but the players will have tricky recovery shots off the red wood chips if they do manage to miss these wide fairways.

The most challenging hole is the final hole, with its rock-lined stream meandering up the middle of its 620-yard fairway. The hole gently climbs to the huge and undulating green, a fitting crescendo to this 7706 yards track.

Jumeirah Golf Estates have overseeded the tees, fairways and rough on the Earth course with ryegrass, offering greater contrast and definition to the brilliant white bunkers and barkmulched landscape areas. The course will prove to be a tougher test this year for the players than in 2009 and 2010, with more of a premium being placed on finding the fairways with tee shots.

My tips to Win:

One person who seems determined to put his name on the Harry Vardon Trophy by winning the Order of Merit is Patrick Reed 9/1 – with WilliamHill – who would make history in becoming the first American to win the coveted trophy. Patrick has played in this event four times and has two Top 10 finishes and a runner-up and has not been outside the Top 15 in his three starts on this year’s PGA Tour wraparound season with his last outing being his tenth-place finish at The Masters.

Last year was the first time Tyrrell Hatton 12/1 – with WilliamHill – hadn’t finished inside the Top 25 at the DP World Tour Championship in his six starts, which includes a runner-up finish and two other Top 10s. Tyrrell comes into the European Tours finale as the BMW PGA Champion and having also won his first PGA Tour event at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and will be in confident mood this week.

In his current form and going for three in a row how could I not tip Christiaan Bezuidenhout 20/1 – with BetFair – winning again at the weekends South African Open by five shots and putting his name next to some legendary South African golfers will only increase this lad’s confidence. Christiaan played in this event for the first-time last year and made the Top 15 and that was with a final round 73, but it is a more confident Bezuidenhout that walks through the Jumeirah Golf Estates gates this week.

Each-way tips:

I am going to stick with Andy Sullivan 30/1 – with 10Bet – again this week after his runner-up finish at the Dubai Championship. Andy will be disappointed in the fact he didn’t get the win, but I am sure with a couple of Top 10s under his belt over the Earth course including a runner-up finish here winning this week would have been the priority.

Another player that I am going to be sticking with this week is Wilco Nienaber 66/1 – with UniBet – it maybe Wilco’s first time playing the Earth course but his length is certainly going to be a big advantage this week. Nienaber also comes into this week on the back of three consecutive Top 15 finishes which includes his runner-up finish at the Joburg Open, he has also proved he can play outside of his home country with Top 6 finishes in England and Spain where he played some great golf at a very tough Valderrama

Outside tip:

I am also going with Dean Burmester 80/1 – with Ladbrokes – who comes into this week in great form and has a good record over the Earth Course. Dean had a Top 5 finish at the weekends South African Open, his second Top 5 in his last four starts the other coming at the Italian Open. Burmester has teed it up twice in the DP World Tour Championship and has two fourth place finishes so the course obviously suits his eye and in his current form I think these are good odds.

As always good luck
