This week sees the tour move to the mainland island of Hawaii, Oahu and tees up at the Waialae Country Club. The course nestles between the Koolau mountain range on the north and Pacific Ocean on the south.

Opened in 1927 and designed by Seth Raynor, the Waialae Country Club has hosted major golfing events since 1965 and has been the venue for the annual Hawaiian PGA tournament.

Tailored greens, lush fairways, beautiful mountain ranges, the blue ocean, these are some of the fantastic views the course has to offer the visiting golfer. The pros on the other hand will be playing the course in a different way as the front and back nines are reversed for Tournament play in order to capitalise on the sun setting in the west.

My tips to Win:

I am sure Justin Thomas 5/1 – with SportingBet – will be on a high getting his year off to a winning start and being a past champion here he will be looking to make it back-to-back wins and like the bookies I think he will be the man to beat this week.

With five Top 15 finishes including a Top 10 and a fourth-place finish in this event Webb Simpson 12/1 – with SportingBet – will be looking forward to getting 2020 off to a good start. Webb has teed it up three times on the wraparound season so far and has made the Top 10 in each of those tournaments which included a runner-up finish at the RSM Classic and I expect him to be challenging again this week.

After amassing 3.5 points from 5 in the Presidents Cup matches Sung Jae Im 25/1 – with SportingBet – showed he has got what it takes to perform under pressure. Sung-Jae missed out on winning his maiden PGA Tour event last year in a play-off but did manage to win on the Korean Tour. This will be Sung-Jae second season on the PGA Tour and I believe he will win this year and I expect him to be in the thick of it this week.

Each way tips:

Charles Howell lll 40/1 – with SportingBet – has been teeing it up in this event every year since 2002 and in that time, he has notched up two runners-up finishes five Top 5 finishes and another three Top 10s. It’s an amazing record but one that I am sure frustrates him as that elusive victory still evades him, but I do expect Charles to be in the thick of it again this year

After missing the cut here at the Sony Open in his first three starts you could forgive Kevin Kisner 50/1 – with SportingBet – if he gave this tournament a miss off of his yearly schedule, but the South Carolinian kept at it and was rewarded with two Top 5 finishes on the spin. Kevin comes into this week after a tough Top 15 finish at the Tournament of Champions, but having that extra week’s competitive golf I feel will help him this week.

Outside tip:

I am going to stick with Lanto Griffin 80/1 – with BetFair – who was my long odds tip last week at the Tournament of Champions and while a lot of the other competitors were notching up some over par rounds Lanto manged to play consistent golf staying under par each round, what was missing was one round in the 60s. Lanto has only been outside of the Top 20 twice in this wraparound season and has a win in that run and I think these are good odds for the Californian.

Longer odds:

Try 2016 Champion Fabián Gómez 150/1 – with BetFred

As always good luck
