Designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, the plantation course at Kapalua Resort on Maui again plays host to this week's Sentry Tournament of Champions. It’s a top quality field as you would expect with all the competitors having won on last year's PGA Tour.

KJ Choi who shot a 62 at the 2003 Mercedes-Benz Championship holds the course record on the Plantation course. The golf course features several fantastic ocean views with steep uphill climbs and downhill approaches which gives the opportunity for some dramatic TV coverage. One hole to watch out for is the par-5 finishing hole which is a downhill 663-yard par 5.

My tips to Win:

I think the player to beat this week is Jon Rahm 4/1 – with SportingBet – who has played in this event twice and had a runner-up in his first appearance and an eighth-place finish last year. Jon signed off last year by winning his home Open in October and then the European Tour Championship the last week in November and I am sure he will be looking to get 2020 off to a winning start.

Having won this event twice I am sure Dustin Johnson 11/1 – with UniBet – will be looking forward to being back here in Hawaii, Dustin also has several Top 10 finishes here. The only way to qualify to play in this event is if you had won an event the previous year on the PGA Tour so there are many new players in the field each year and with Johnson’s record of only missing this tournament twice since 2009 that course knowledge alone makes him one of the favourites this week.


Each-way tips:

Matt Kuchar 45/1 – with SportingBet – has played in this event seven times so he does know the Kapalua Resort Plantation course well and has four Top 10 finishes in that time. Matt is known for his consistency and he started last season well with two wins and I am sure he is desperate to add this tournament to his rollcall of victories.

Current leader of the FedEx Cup is Brendon Todd 45/1 – with SkyBet – and he has two wins already on the wraparound season, but it’s not all been plane sailing for the lad from Pittsburgh as he started the season with four missed cuts, so it will be interesting to see what Brendon Todd turns up. I am sure he has been working hard over the last couple of weeks and he does have a Top 10 finish here from his only other appearance in the event.
