| The regular tour heads to Greensboro North Carolina and it has a feeling of “After the Lord Majors show” now all the major championships and most of the WGC events are now completed, but I am sure once the tournament gets underway, we will have some great golf, especially for the guys on the bubble of trying to make the FedEx Cup play-offs and what a course to be playing on.
Donald Ross originally designed Sedgefield Country Club back in 1926 the track was redesigned by Kris Spence in 2007, the restoration project took 10 months to complete at a cost of $3 million which transformed the course back to how Donald Ross envisaged the course to play.
Now measuring 7,130-yards and a par 70, the course doesn’t play that long from the tees but emphasis is on strategy and being in the right section of these rolling fairways. The small greens are very undulating and slope from back to front, with many falling off the edges into collection areas. The layout has a reputation for low scoring, which should make for an exciting tournament this week

My tips to Win:
After missing the cut in his first start at the Wyndham Championship in 2009 Webb Simpson 10/1 – with Ladbrokes – has only missed out on the Top 25 once since then and has a win, a runner-up and four Top 10s – two of which are Top 5s. So, like the bookies I feel he is the man to beat this week, coming in on the back of his runner-up finish at the WGC St Jude Invitational at the weekend.
Another past champion of this event is Patrick Reed 25/1 – with Ladbrokes – who also has a couple of Top 25 finishes here. Patrick has been going through some swing changes this year and in recent week’s it looks like he is starting to get back to challenging again. I never understand why players mess with their swings after winning a Major Championship but another Top 15 at the WGC at the weekend making it his third from his last four starts should see him teeing it up in confident mood this week.
This week’s defending champion is Brandt Snedeker 25/1 – with SportingBet – and most of you know I feel those who are defending a title always try to put up a good defence. Brandt started the wraparound season well with a runner-up finish but I think losing the play-off after started the last round leading the event set him back. Snedeker did miss the cut at The Open but has been playing some good golf with two Top 5s from his last six starts
Each-way tips:
I am going to stick with Billy Horschel 28/1 – with SportingBet – this week after tipping him in the WGC event where he made the Top 10, his second from his last five starts. Billy has only recently started playing well in this event with fifth and eleventh place finishes in the last three years, but he will come into this week in confident mood and now knowing he can challenge on this course.
Another player that should be in confident mood this week is Cameron Smith 40/1 – with SportingBet – who started the wraparound season well and then just went completely off the boil. He now seems to be back on track and with two Top 20s in this event from his four starts one of which is a Top 10, I think we will see him in the thick of it come Sunday.
Outside tip:
You may ask why I am tipping Ryan Armour 100/1 – with Ladbrokes – who has eleven missed cuts from his twenty-six starts so far this year and he also missed the cut in his first three starts in this event, but over the last two years Ryan seems to have found a way to play the Sedgefield track and has two Top 10 finishes including a Top 5 where he shot a second round 61. Positive memories like that can only help when he arrives here this week and these could be very good odds if he makes the Top 5 again.
Longer odds:
Try Kiradech Aphibarnrat 150/1 – with SportingBet
As always good luck
