| The tour now moves on to Cromwell, Connecticut for the Travelers Championship which is once again being held at the TPC River Highlands.
River Highlands is a bit of a chameleon, the course opened in 1928 under the name of Middletown Golf Club, which later became known as the Edgewood Country Club. In 1982 Pete Dye completely redesigned the 6,841 yard track and finally in 1989 it went through another renovation this time undertaken by Bobby Weed with input from PGA Tour players Howard Twitty and Roger Maltbie.
The course weaves its way through mature maple, oak, eastern white pine and sycamore trees, which help to frame the gently rolling fairways. There are numerous lakes, ponds and over 100 bunkers. The tough finishing stretch of holes from the 15th - 17th play around a four-acre lake - just to make things a bit more interesting!

My tips to Win:
I didn’t tip Patrick Cantlay 11/1 – with BetFair – at last week’s US Open as winning takes a lot out of a player both physically and mentally and while I thought he may do well after winning at The Memorial Tournament I didn’t think he would challenge. Patrick had a Top 15 finish here last year and fired a 65 along the way, but I feel he will do a lot better this year and he comes into this week in buoyant mood.
I was surprised that Paul Casey 20/1 – with SportingBet – didn’t really put together a challenge at last week’s US Open, but I do feel he will be back challenging this week. Paul has a good record in this event with two runner-up finishes in the last four years and he also has a Top 5 sandwich in between them. Casey has a win, a runner-up and two other Top 5 finishes so far this year and he will be looking to get that bridesmaid tag off his back in this event come Sunday.
With three wins and a runner-up finish in this event it’s hard to look past Bubba Watson 33/1 – with SportingBet – who will be the defending champion this week. Bubba may not be coming into this week in great form with two missed cuts from his last three starts but he has had two Top 5s this year and obviously from his record loves playing this track.
Each way tips:
I was surprised that Marc Leishman 33/1 – with Ladbrokes – didn’t challenge more at Pebble Beach as it is a course that he seems to enjoy and he was in good form going into that week, which brings us to this week as I feel that was a bit of a blip. Marc is a past champion here and has had several Top 20 finishes since then including a Top 10 and I think he will be back challenging this week.
Another player that will be looking to get the bridesmaid monkey tag off his back this week is Ryan Moore 66/1 ¬ – with SportingBet – who like Casey has two runner-up finishes in this event and he also has three other Top 10 finishes two of which are Top 5s. Ryan has had a bit of a rollercoaster year so far but he did have a third place finish at the Texas Open a couple of weeks ago and being back here should bring with it a lot of positive energy.
Outside tip:
I did tip Chesson Hadley 150/1 – with BetFred – a few times earlier this year before he went on his downward spiral and missing eleven cuts, but I feel he will take a lot of positives from his Top 10 performance at the US Open last week and I think these are good odds for someone who is a very talented player.
Longer odds:
Try Sepp Straka 200/1 – with SpreadEx
As always good luck
