Designed by Bob Cupp and Tom Kite in 2006 there can’t be many golf course that use national monuments as sight lines like they do at The Liberty National Golf Course where Lady Liberty serves as a target on many of the approach shots here. Liberty is an extremely challenging layout, playing to more than 7,400 yards from the back tees, with narrow, curving fairways and smallish greens that are hard to hit even on the rare calm day.

The 14th, a 150-yard par 3 along Upper New York Bay is probably one of its more iconic holes. Accuracy from the tee is what is needed here and with the wind whipping in from the Atlantic, this will favour the players who can control their ball flight. Liberty National has a magnificent backdrop of both the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty, which stands less than a 1,000 yards from the 18th green.

My tips to Win:

Not only in this event but Brooks Koepka 8/1 – with SportingBet – has been the man to beat each time he tees it up and as we move into the FedEx Cup play-off Brooks will want to be the last man standing come the Tour Championship and there are very few I feel can stop him.

It hasn’t been the year Rory McIlroy 11/1 – with BetFred – would have liked it to have been but that is by his own high standards which are measured in Major Championship wins, with the biggest blow coming at The Open Championship. One way to make up for that would be to win the FedEx Cup play-offs and I see the Irishman pulling out all the stops and to be honest I think it could come down to these two.

Webb Simpson 25/1 – with BetFair – will be teeing it up here in confident mood this week after his runner-up finish at the Wyndham Championship that pushed him into the Top 10 on the FedEx Cup rankings. Webb is the only player in the Top 15 of the FedEx Cup rankings who doesn’t have a win, which just shows how consistently he has played all year to amass the amount of points needed with three runner-up finishes.

Each-way tips:

One player who knows what it feels like to win over the Liberty National GC track is Adam Scott 40/1 – with SportingBet – who won The Barclays here back in 2013 firing two 66s along the way. Adam is another player who has yet to win on tour this year but does have two runner-up finishes and I am sure those positive memories of how well he played here, will help him this week.

For someone sitting in third-place on the FedEx Cup rankings I was pleasantly surprised to see Matt Kuchar 50/1 – with SportingBet – this far down the betting odds and if you can grab him at these odds I would. Matt may not have played well since the US Open with fortieth place finishes at both The Open and WGC St Jude, but with two wins, two runner-up finishes so far this year plus four Top 10s I wouldn’t be righting him off just yet.

Outside tip:

Another player whose odds may change rapidly is Jason Kokrak 100/1 – with WilliamHill – who like Simpson will be teeing it up in confident mood after his sixth-place finish at the weekend. Jason has played some solid golf this year only missing the cut once in twenty-one starts and has made the Top 25 in eleven of those events, with his best finish being a runner-up at the Valsper Championship. I think these are great odds for the Canadian who had a Top 10 finish here in The Barclays back in 2013 so he knows how to score over this track.

Longer odds:

Try Nick Watney 200/1 – with BetFred

As always good luck
