Located on the volcanic Jeju Island – which is south of South Korea’s and referred to as Korea’s Maui – The Club at Nine Bridges is a 7,196 yards, par 72 golf course, designed by Ronald Fream and David Dale which was completed in 2001 and is the perfect combination of a great golf course in a stunning setting.

The two nines wander through pine-clad rolling land at the foot of Mount Halla – South Korea’s tallest mountain. Parts of Jeju Island resemble Perthshire so the boost of the PR people that the design resembles a Scottish Highlands course rings true to a point, but the finishing and manicuring is more akin to an American style golf course.

Fream and Dale remit was that nature came first even during the initial developments of the design so the course works with nature and there has been minimal disruption to its surroundings. The course derives its name from the eight bridges built on the course, the ninth being a metaphor that connects the club to its members and guests.

My tips to Win:

This will be past champion Justin Thomas 15/2 – with UniBet – second tournament of the new wraparound season having made the Top 5 in the Safeway Open where he shot a second round 64 to put him in the hunt. Justin won this event in on the first hole of a play-off in 2018 after opening the tournament with a 63 and I am sure he will be looking forward to this week.

What type of year will this be for Hideki Matsuyama 16/1 – with SportingBet – if only he could hole out with confidence the lad from Ehime, Japan would be conquering all before him. Hideki has teed it up twice on the new wraparound season so far and after knocking off the rust at the Safeway Open where he missed the cut, Matsuyama did make the Top 20 at the Shriners Hospitals For Children Open and he will be look to challenge here this week.

A runner-up finish in his home championship the Open de Espana and a Top 10 at the BMW PGA Championship Rafa Cabrera Bello 25/1 – with Ladbrokes – will be in confident mood when he arrives here this week. Rafa has a good record in this event with eleventh and third place finishes over the Nine Bridges Golf Resort course and I expect him to be in the thick of it come Sunday.

Each-way tips:

Having lost a play-off in this event two years ago Marc Leishman 33/1 – with BetFred – followed that up with Top 20 and his final round 66 see him storm up the leaderboard thirteen places. Marc is another player that should be in buoyant mood when he arrives here after his third-place finish at the Safeway Open a couple of weeks ago.

With two Top 7 finishes including a third-place finish over the Nine Bridges Golf Resort track Cameron Smith 40/1 – with BetFair – obviously enjoys playing this layout. Cameron has started the new wraparound season in fairly good form with two Top 25 finishes, but he has not really challenged and he has missed one missed, although with his record here I am sure he will be looking to rectify that this week.

Outside tips:

After playing on a very tight strategic Olgiata golf course in the Italian Open Graeme McDowell 100/1 – with UniBet – will be looking forward to having a few wide fairways to aim at, but I feel Graeme’s shot-making especially in his second round 66 will have done a lot for his confidence and although he will be slightly disappointed with his two final rounds of 71, he will certainly be taking the positives from his Top 15 finish at the European Tour event.

Longer odds:

Try Jazz Janewattananond 125/1 – with BetFred

As always good luck
