This week sees the PGA Tour hit the Midwest in Western Illinois for the John Deere Classic, which for the last twelve years has been played at the TPC Deere Run Championship course.

The rolling terrain and wooded ravines were the perfect arena for ex PGA touring professional, DA Weibring to design this beautiful track and with the wooded areas of this former Arabian horse farm sitting next to the Rock River, it’s easy to see why Golf Digest ranked this course at No 42 in the US 100 greatest public golf courses.

The Championship tees measure a tough 7,256-yard and with a par 71 it will test every club and shot making skill of those who compete here this week. The TPC Deere Run is just two hours from Chicago and is located in the Quad Cities region of Western Illinois.

My tips to Win:

To be made the bookies favourite shows how quickly Viktor Hovland 20/1 – with MarathonBet – has come in a short period of time since turning professional after the US Open. I have tipped Viktor in his last two events where he has finished inside the Top 15 in both and not looked out of place on the tour, I also think he will win an event very soon.

I will also be sticking with Joaquin Niemann 25/1 – with SportingBet – this week and although he didn’t start and finish well at the 3M Open his 63, 65 second and third round shows the lad from Santiago, Chile has what it takes to win out here.

It is looking like Charles Howell lll 33/1 – with SpreadEX – mid season crisis is coming to an end. Charles won earlier in the year and had seven Top 15 finishes which included three Top 10s from his first eleven starts on the wraparound season. He then three missed cuts and had a withdrawal but he seemed to be back on track at the 3M Open and with a couple of Top 5s in this event and not the strongest of fields I think he will be challenging again this week.

Each-way tips:

Ryan Moore 33/1 – with SportingBet – is a past champion of this event and he also has a couple of Top 10 finishes here as well. It has not been a great year for Ryan who has seven missed cuts and comes into this week after missing two on the spin. On the plus side he does have a runner-up finish this year and I think being back here with this field he will be back to challenging this week.

Another past champion is Zach Johnson 35/1 – with SportingBet – who also has three runners-up and three Top 5s, to say he likes teeing it up here would be an understatement. Zach has not really challenged this year but I feel being back here and again with this weak field he will be looking to get that second win over the TPC Deere Run track.

Outside tip:

It has been a bit of a rollercoaster year for Mexican Carlos Ortiz 100/1 – with Ladbrokes – who has four Top 10s and twelve missed cuts from his twenty-five starts on the wraparound season. A final round 64 see him storm up the leaderboard at last week’s 3M Open and into the Top 5 and I think he will be in a confident mood when he tees it up here this week.

Longer odds:

Try Chad Campbell 400/1 – with UniBet

As always good luck
