Rees Jones designed the Tournament course at the Golf Club of Houston, formally known as Redstone Golf Club, where during construction artifacts belonging to the Atakapa Indians were found all around the grounds. That history has been incorporated into the design of Redstone's logo with a reflection of a green over water within an Indian Arrowhead outline.

The 7,457 yard par-72 layout has been carved out of woodlands lush with oak, pine and cypress trees. The course also has wetlands that are filled with native plants and flowers. Past Shell Houston Open champions at the Golf Club of Houston include Fred Couples, Vijay Singh, Stuart Appleby, Adam Scott, Johnson Wagner and Paul Casey.

My tips to Win:

The first time Henrik Stenson 10/1 – with UniBet – teed it up at the Houston Open he made the Top 5 and he has had two other runner-up finishes since then and added to his Top 10 places, so I feel the reason he will be turning up this week is because he has a bit of a bee in his bonnet about winning this tournament.

Two Top 25 finishes from his first two starts on the PGA Tours new wraparound season should see Daniel Berger 25/1 – with BetFred – arrive in buoyant mood. Daniel seems to enjoy teeing it up at the Golf Club of Houston and has finished inside the Top 25 each time he has teed it up here and has two Top 5 finishes from his four starts.

Another player that loves the Golf Club of Houston is Russell Henley 25/1 – with SportingBet – who has not only won this event but has not been outside the Top 10 since 2014. Russell has had an OK start to the new wraparound season making the cut in all of his three starts, but going by his record in this event he will be looking forward to this week.

Each-way tips:

Pat Perez 28/1 – with SportingBet – has a bit of a love/hate relationship with the Houston Open having finished in the Top 15 several times, but he has also missed several cuts during his time on the PGA Tour. After opening the wraparound season with a missed cut Pat made the Top 5 at the Shriners Open at the weekend firing rounds of 64, 62 along the way showing it could be one of those good weeks in Houston come Sunday.

Sebastián Muñoz 50/1 – with BoyleSport – has had a rollercoaster start to the new wraparound season with a win and Top 10 finishes, but he also has a missed cut and a thirty-third place finish. Sebastián played golf for the North Texas University so I am sure he will have a lot of support this week and will want to put in a good performance.

Outside tip:

I did tip Lanto Griffin 60/1 – with UniBet – last week and I am going to stick with him this week after his fourth Top 20 finish from four starts. Lanto has won on the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica and although he didn’t do himself justice in his first season on the PGA Tour in 2018 he seems to have learned the lessons taken the positives and has come out this year and put them into practice.
